Last fall my grandfathers Christmas train showed up on my doorstep. I had only seen it in static display or in boxes, never operating. Knowing nothing about trains I began to study and plan. My hope was to replace a toy train around our Christmas tree with this Lionel. It evolved into a permanent shelf layout and family history display. I made some repairs, learned how to clean it, customized track, and have it running: 1666e locomotive, whistle tender, barrel gondola, log car, remote couplers, remote switches, and Bascule bridge. My history backdrop is this autumns project.

Looking back, I know my grandfather would have taught me. I was afraid to ask him. If only.............

Mine is an '88 AUDM ED9 with JDM ZC engine, (in bits unfortunately), you wouldn't be so lucky as to have an EF8?

Fantastic story, thank you for sharing it with us.

I would love to see a picture if you can.

The pictures are in his photo albums on his profile page, if anyone is interested.

Definitely worthy of Antiques Roadshow, great job!!!!!. lasm

That is some well maintained equipment. I wonder if your Grandfather found this under the Christmas as child or got it later in life. Either way, great you are making use of it and honoring him at the same time.
