I'm leaning more at "keeping it real", as in being able to pass vehicles off as "normal" everyday vehicles.
I'm with you there, but the Reel Rides series is based on famous cars from films, so I'm just thinking inside that definition, using my own favorite films as criteria for considering possibilities.
Example, Smokey's Trans Am could be passed as a normal Trans Am, Back then, everyone had one.
I remember years ago, someone here in Kenosha won a contest, and won a "Starsky Torino" Also, I believe Ford made those for a while during Starsky & hutch years.
I would buy a stock Delorian in H.O., but not the BTTF version, its not easy to pass that one off as an everyday car.
I'll give you that, and if it's diecast, it would likely be difficult to modify to a standard version. However, it might be worth their time to tool a Delorean for the stock version with provisions for injection molded plastic fittings to change it to the Back to the Future version. Reel Rides is a product line sold under the brand of Malibu, so I imagine they would like to maximize their return on their investment.
And having said that, it's not out of the realm of possibility for some of the Reel Rides cars to appear in the standard Malibu line. There's nothing particularly distinctive about the Chevy pickup, or as you mention, the Trans Am. Here in Texas, there are tons of those TA's and trucks still running. Now, I haven't seen too many Deloreans in person (3 - one in my neighborhood and two owned by a local car dealer), so I wouldn't consider them an everyday car, but compared to the odds of seeing Doc Brown's version? I see your point.
Road Warrior's Semi is WAY too futuristic, not for me.
Eh, not really. Remove the spiky junk from it and you have a pretty ordinary right-hand drive Mack R with a triple axle tanker trailer. Athearn makes a superb Mack R, so there's no need for Malibu to duplicate their effort (nevermind the licensing issues since Athearn has a licensed version). I'm really more interested in the Mad Max trailer (and kitbashing possiblities).
Of the other trucks I listed, the 1955 Peterbilt would get me most excited. But who's seen
Duel besides me and a few other rabid night owls?
Oh, I didn't get any information on a schedule, but I'd encourage everyone to send your suggestions and questions to the folks at Reel Rides directly. Let them know what impact their models have on our hobby and let them know what you're interested in buying. Hearing it from me is one thing, but hearing a whole chorus of customers is quite another!

Oh yeah - I forgot to mention I suggested the 390 GT Mustang from Bullitt - now that's greatness...
