New Vehicles

Hey Guys,

Malibu line of cars has just released a new set called REEL RIDES. These are 5 cars that were from films. These cars are:

A 1977 Trans am from Smokey & the Bandit!!! (YAAAAAAAY)
A 1972 Chevy C10 Pick up truck from Dazed and Confused
A 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge from Dazed and Confused
A 1967 Plymouth GTX Convertible from Tommy Boy.

The fifth car is some kind of Porsche 911 or 914 type car from another movie, but I didn't purchase that one. So, If ya want new cars, Malibu has them out. They are in RED boxes, not black. I got mine at WAL-MART in Kenosha, Wisc.

Sorry jbaakko, I'm not able to supply pix, I dont have the equipment or know-how to do so. I WILL say that they are NICE!!!!

Also, I found out that the porsche was the one from Top Gun.

Also, The GTO is a Judge, not just a GTO.

That Porsche is a Speedster, from the film Top Gun. I didn't buy that one either.

These cars are very sharp. They suffer from the too-heavy paint, but they'll meet most people's standards right out of the box.

The TransAm is, in a word, awesome. It's the car I've been waiting for someone, anyone, to do in HO.

Very nice, I guess I'l have to get that one too, I DO work on Miramar now... As for the the Trans Am, I guess I'll have to do that Trailer now...

The Chevy pick up is nice too!! It is the best looking P.U. I've seen in H.O. scale. As far as heavy on the paint, the worst one is the metallic GTX. You can really tell on that one the paint is thick. It's not as bad on the other three. The Trans Am is the best of the 4 I bought, it even has ALL the pin striping!!! I'm getting at least 3 more Trans Am's!!!!!

I hope Malibu expands on this idea and does more movie and tv cars. Some I'd like to see would be:

1. The semi from the first Smokey & the Bandit!!!!!
2. Starsky's Ford Gran Torino From Starsky & Hutch.
3. K.I.T.T. The Trans Am from Knight Rider.
4 The lime green Dodge Charger from Dirty Larry, Crazy Mary!!!!!
5 The semi from BJ & The Bear (dumb show, but AWESOME semi!!!)

Am I missing any?? Can you think of movie or tv vehicles you'd like to see in H.O. scale???

After making the suggestions that follow, I received this in a response from the Reel Rides staff:

"I can't tell you exactly what is coming out in the next series, but I will say that you will NOT be disappointed... "

Here's what I suggested:

  • 1974 Dodge Monaco from The Blues Brothers
  • Dodge Charger "General Lee" from The Dukes of Hazzard
  • Delorean from Back to the Future
  • 1971 Plymouth Valiant from Duel
  • Ford Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch

So maybe there's a chance we'll both be buying that Torino, rock. And tooling for a Charger would work in several colors, not just the General Lee.

I also would like to see some heavy trucks done in this theme and the two you mention are great candidates! I especially love that BJ McKay Kenworth Aerodyne. What a gorgeous machine. But my favorite tractor trailers from film are:

  1. Right-hand drive Mack R from The Road Warrior
  2. 1955 Peterbilt from Duel (hmm, both of those are tankers...)
  3. Mack R "Rubber Duck" from Convoy (is there a trend here?)
  4. GMC General with mural dry van from Smokey & The Bandit II
  5. The "hey, Foley! Got a cigarette?" COE with doubles from Beverly Hills Cop

I know I'll think of more, but that's my list for now...

Yeah, I thought of you when I sent that email, Doc. Let's hope you get your wish!

I'm leaning more at "keeping it real", as in being able to pass vehicles off as "normal" everyday vehicles.

Example, Smokey's Trans Am could be passed as a normal Trans Am, Back then, everyone had one.

I remember years ago, someone here in Kenosha won a contest, and won a "Starsky Torino" Also, I believe Ford made those for a while during Starsky & hutch years.

I would buy a stock Delorian in H.O., but not the BTTF version, its not easy to pass that one off as an everyday car.

Road Warrior's Semi is WAY too futuristic, not for me.

I AGREE with the Emergency fire trucks, But I want the LATER versions, not the first seasons. I want the Ward LaFrance pumper, and the smaller Rescue truck!!!

BTTF would work in any time if you wanted Marty back. Just run a wire from the clock tower and burn a section of road down the middle of town!! LOL

Also, now that they do have the TRANS AM out, I wouldn't mind seeing that come out in a blue version, and a gold version!!!!

I just thought of two more cars I wouldn't mind seeing:

1. The mustang from Gone In 60 Seconds, Didn't Nicholas Cage call it BETSY, or something like that??

2. The 69 Yenko Camaro from The Fast And The Furious.

Eleanor was her name and she is a 67 shelby gt500. I would like one of those or the Boss series of mustsangs as long as they are for th 69-70 year model. Don't like the looks of the 71 year models.
