I just wanted to throw this in here. It's just a short run sesh on the layout in its current state. Enjoy!

I just keep wanting to get stuff done. I want to clean up the big mess I have on my table and that leads to another thing and another thing. I just want to get this layout as "done" as I can very soon lol.

I did build the original Brillo Branchline in under a month so stands to reason I could throw up a good layout in a bit longer amount of time lol. But in all actuality it has been a lot of work. I have been taking more time in certain areas and making sure things look good. I probably have been...

Update:
Here is a bit of a light update. I have built a majority of the buildings that are going to go on the layout. I will paint them eventually but I am waiting for the right time to start on that. I have also built the new engine shed. I stole the hinges off of a small Dollar Tree box and...

Update:
Just a small update today but I really wanted to share it. I dug out the dike! I scraped it out with a wire brush and sanded it down to be more smooth for painting. I have added a picture with the water swatch to get a feel for how it is going to look. I plan to paint it a brown and...

Yeah, I was thinking about doing some coloring beneath the water just to give it a bit of depth. I don't want to do too much because that might throw it off too much. I will do some experimenting though.

Update:
Small update today. I have done a bunch of work on custom scale buildings. But first, the mountain fits great into its new spot. the hole has been painted and is almost 100% there. As you can see, it looks pretty good. Next is the dike. I am starting to plan it out. I ripped the...

Thank you! Sometimes it feels like I am really flying by the seat of my pants while building this layout. It is a bit out of the norm for me. It is nice to know that people are watching and liking my work. It means a lot. It gives me the confidence to push on with my projects.

Update:
Here is the current progress. I have dug out the hole for the mountain to sit in but my measurements seemed to be a tad off. I ended up trying to use my spackle to make the fit a bit better. I am going to paint everything back to brown and use a glue/paint mixture to seal the spackle...

I have thought about building a module for a modular layout or something like that but at the moment I don't think it is something I can do. I have no power tools to work with so it is difficult to create a good module. For the moment I will continue to work on my janky layout. Down the line I...

I just did a bit of Googling and safe to say I am probably going to go away from using cat litter for ballast. Seems like too many problems. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
-
Thanks for the tip! I will make sure to do my research and be careful when ballasting. That was something I hadn't considered until now.

Looks great! I am impressed. I love how much there is to do operations wise. Very fun!

Update:
Here is a bit of the progress on the layout. I cut out the mountain from the poster board then glued it onto a foam board. I cut it out from there bu the sides were warping up. I had to glue and clamp down all of the sides to make sure it would be flush when set on the layout. I plan...

No plans sprucing them up. I actually think their current look is pretty good. I can't wait to see them littered on the layout
-
It's crazy to me that you call this a beginner layout! It looks so good! Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see where this thing goes!
-
Update:
Here is the mountain as it stands. I am having trouble with deciding if I want to keep the mountain as a solo piece that I can remove from the modular layout for easy transport, or glue the whole thing down and just say screw it. I think I am still thinking about keeping it solo but...

I probably need to go over it with a better coat. I haven't had time to check it quite yet. I plan to once I am done with class for the day. 60/40or 70/30 will probably be better.

Update:
Here is the current progress on the layout. First off I have placed some misc. cardboard pieces around the more populated side of the layout. I still don't really have a clue what I am going to do with that side but so far I am not focused on that. I think it will come once the mountain...
