    N or HO?

Good debate! My son wants the smaller scale because he thinks it cool. We went to a train show recently and saw a super small scale, no idea what it was, but it literally was in a suitcase - full layout and scenery. He wanted it right away.

    N or HO?

Thanks for the posts. I'm leaning more toward HO at this point. Might build the table in the corner and take it from there. At my local hobby store the N track switches are more expensive or as expensive as HO ones. Figures are more expensive. Rolling stock was about $10 a piece. It's one...

    Stone walls?

I posted some images of my test scenery in another forum here: https://picasaweb.google.com/118277857864805047567/20120320 Sorry for poor quality, click on slideshow to see larger images. 8 hours over 2 days - about $80 test.

    First Timer....

Here's what I built in about 8 hours over 2 days with foam. One coat of paint, no detailing, grass, seam hiding or water - yet. Fun first attempt. Great to make my mistakes and learn here before the layout. I also learned a lot on how to produce the required results. Total test cost = ~$80 all...

    First Timer....

I posted this in another forum here. Like you, I'm a total noob and doing the research. I found this vid on YouTube to be extremely helpful. I just built a test scenery on a 2'x3' just to learn and play. Good fun, totally customizable and lets your imagination run wild...

    Stone walls?

I found this on YouTube and it works great. It's easy, adaptive and cheap but does require elbow grease. I built a small test scenery using this method and it works great, although still in progress... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrYcvt8Pfns T

    N or HO?

I'm sure this is an ongoing debate in the community... so, let me be more precise. I have HO stuff that I bought my 7 year old but doesn't fit as much for the space. So, I thought I'd look at N scale. However, N scale seems to be more expensive for everything, especially engines. Sure I can...

    Hey Now from Portland, OR

Wow, I'm a totally noob here but I never knew the depth this hobby has. Started out buying my 7 year old son a HO Bachman kit 2 years ago, made a flat table(4x6 - was in the garage cut and ready...), built a few buildings. Went to a recent train show and was blown away by what I saw. Now...
