    Pine Flat

Mulling over starting a new thread for Pine Flat. After going back through this one, most of it is no longer relevant and getting more or less a clean start. Theme is basically the same but a different configuration with more space, new track plan with more switching, etc.

    Ballasting and weathering track (redux)

I usually paint the rails first, weather the ties, then ballast. To clean the paint from the top of the rails, I use a 1"x 2" piece of balsa that I saw off of a 6" long piece. Cut about 3/4' thick so you have a 1"x2"x 3/4". Soak one side of it in appropriate thinner (I use 91% alcohol). Scrub...

    Pine Flat

You're probably right Dave. The benchwork is supposed to deliver Monday. If weather's not too bad Saturday, like 50mph wind, I'll go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up the sheet of foam and some glue. Don't want it to end up somewhere in Nebraska... 😁

    Pine Flat

Thanks, John! Went out to the garage today. Swept out the former utility/laundry room, knocked down the cobwebs, and checked out the electrical system. Looking good so far. Lots of room but probably not going to get much bigger than 2'x 8' or 2'x 12' at the most. Will have room for some...

Willie: Photos of TNMRC layout pretty cool, but reminded me that there are NO Whataburgers in Wyoming... Still got most of my teeth except wisdom teeth. Had them out about 20 years ago. Top ones came out ok but both bottoms had to hammered and chiseled out. Had general anesthesia; took me a...

    A Beginner's Journey Pt 2

a model railroader was once asked, "How much do you really spend on the hobby?" He replied,"If I knew how much I really spent on model railroading, I'd probably have a stroke; If my wife knew how much I really spend on it, she'd probably get a divorce,.,..," 😁

    Flex track?

Yep! Even the c70 ones can test your patience...

    Flex track?

Definitely prefer flex-track. Over the years I've used primarily Micro Engineering HO code 70. It can be a little testy to work with; you'll need a good bit of patience to get the curves just right and it can be a bugger to straighten sections that have been curved, but it looks really nice when...

    Pine Flat

Been several weeks since last post... Nurse Judy (ret.), myself, and Phelix the Cat got ourselves from East Texas to SE Wyoming without incident. My health situation has improved significantly and I drove all of the 1,000+ mile trip. Daughter #2 and son-in-law had most of the basics prepared...

    A Beginner's Journey Pt 2

That Xuron flush-cut track cutter is a great tool! In fact all the Xuron tools are excellent quality. They may be a bit pricey but well worth it. You might also dress the ends of the rail with a jewelers file. Makes it a little easier to get those pesky little rail joiners on. Thinning paint...

    A Beginner's Journey Pt 2

Looking good there Jacob. Working with flex track can be challenging, but looks like you're on the right track. I would recommend getting started early with using an airbrush. Learning curve can be quite steep at times, but the results are very rewarding.

Good mornin' y'all. Its 37 and cloudy in Cheyenne this am. Wind chill 27 with winds from SSW @ 10 gusting to 14. A morning shower in the area; otherwise, mild with times of clouds and sun, becoming windy this afternoon. Looks like some frozen stuff in a couple of days. One nice thing about being...
