My new loco came today! Beautiful engine. The box was stamped 2002, but was brand new, still in the wrappings. It went right to work. The only thing I had to do was change the tender's rear coupler from horn hook to knuckle. It is so smooth and quiet and pulls the train around with...

My 060 Bachmann loco leaks smoke fluid but I don't believe I have overfilled it. I just noticed it a couple of days ago when the bottom of the loco was sopping wet with fluid. Is this considered normal? The smoke unit doesn't glow red like it did when new a few months ago. It won't smoke...

I previously mentioned the problems I had with the Bachmann 30° crossing causing my 040 and 060 locos to stall, stop, or jerk hard enough to cause cars to uncouple. The only way around it was to run the train much faster than scale or longevity would allow. I felt this was a design flaw of the...

My first HO set came with a MRC Power Pack that had a pusle power switch that could slow your train to an absolute crawl.
I was coming off a Lionel O Gauge train that required 2 pushes of the direction button to change direction, unlike the HO that had a slide switch forward or reverse. That...

I thought it was reasonably flat when I bought it at a big box store. They have them standing up in racks. They are scored on one side to make it easy to snap in half. You have to be very careful handling it or you end up with two pieces.

I don't quite follow you. The entire setup weighs less than 40 pounds. There is no stacking and the underside of the foam is supported lengthwise by 4 1X3 stringers. It may have been the acrylic paint. Still, not too difficult to deal with. I will shim the track as necessary to keep it flat.

I answered my own question. It is possible to pull the rails from an EZ Track roadbed. Fairly easy on a 4", pretty tough on a 9". Now, on to the 30° crossing. More to come.

Has anyone successfully removed the rails from Bachmann EZ Track? I don't mean lift the rails and ties up, I just need to remove and replace the rails from a crossing for a project. I believe they are just held very snugly in the plastic ties. I think they should pull out from the end, at...

There are two runners lengthwise in the open section. They are about 15" apart. Basically, one on each side and two in the open gives support of 4.
I used 1X3's because they are actually 2 1/2" tall and the 1X6's are actually 5 1/2" tall. Therefore, the 2" board sits 1" below the frame which...

My new setup is coming along well. I recently noticed that the long edges of 2" hard insulation foam are bowed down a bit. Enough so that track laid near the edge is distorted.
I built a frame of 1X6's sized so that the foam would drop in. The inner side of the 1X6's has 1X3's all around...

I don't have the loco yet but when it arrives, I would like to remove the Canadian National decals and replace them with New York Central. I have looked at various sites for model railroad decals but can't seem to find any for NY.

I don't have it in hand yet. I posted the question to get some opinions yay or nay on whether it was a decent loco or not and possibly hear from owners who have experience with the brand. I am also curious how old it might be. It looked like a fair price @$60.

I just bought a brand new Mehano Canadian National Steam Engine "Gold Bell" on ebay. Any comments?
