    Sentimental Journey: DC Power Packs

Absolutely. The saying was " they rolled up the side walks " No malls or super anything even gas stations in town closed by 9 other than the ones on the express ways and interstates.

    Sentimental Journey: DC Power Packs

I remember that model , that's what I thought I had yet was confusing the gauges with two controls.

    Sentimental Journey: DC Power Packs

The one is a throttle master 550 has 2.5 amp , pulse and full switch , on/off, direction reverse loop & direction main line. Volt and amp gauge, both light up . One rheostat old wire wound type with the crank handle like the Tech II and two internal self resetting circuit breakers and 5 big...

    Sentimental Journey: DC Power Packs

When I was a kid my father brought home a Mark stream loco O gauge three rail then later bought a store layout that have more cars and track. As many may know in order to reverse direction you had to turn the huge silver control pointed down then back up. That thing would get so hot even with...

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

I posted and looked in the wanted and for sale area on this forum didn't find what I was looking for. Swap meets are over 2 hours one way from me. Pretty much leaves ebay or time. Thank you all you replied and offered ideas and advice.

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

I've considered the difference between the SD40-2 truck design and the other BB Athearn 6 axle. I can adapt them to work if I build up the SD40-2 pad with something that is reversible. I could only remember the SD9 yet at some point I did have a C -boat and SD45. I didn't have very many 6 axle...

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

I checked the wheel base on a SD40-2 side frame I have one spare and it is the same as the other 6 axle truck used on the SD9 or the metal ones I have for the SD40 , it's what they seemed to do on model trains . They are close enough for my needs if I trim off the section facing the fuel tanks...

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

I know and feel it's a real shame , at least there are old blue box units still around and personally I never had an problem with the way they ran or the lack of details one could always add them. For me that was always the fun of it and the satisfaction I got from the time and work involved...

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

Thank you for the offer , I have two an old one I converted to coupler mount and one later with the coupler mount. What I need are some power trucks like the ones used on the 6 axle Athearns that used the center pin mount like used on the SD 9 and others which I can't recall now so I can finish...

I wish Athearn would bring back a few of the old blue box diesels, I know they won't , still.

I see them on the site we all know about and some are asking $40 for dummy units , and a very few powered never used units and a lot of powered used units. Considering the price of all the new HO units out there now I think $45 to $50 would be fair and I bet they would sell. Just the SW's and...

    Turntable alignment copied from prototype

I had an Atlas turn table on the small layout I used to have in the mid 80's. My father had this enormous metal one that had a sort of bridge with no railings it was about 2" deep , it might have been a bowser brand don't recall. It had a rather large multi metal geared motor so it was pretty...

    Amtrak power!

Last time I was at Union Station when I still lived IL just outside of Chicago was 1967 when the draft board mailed out tickets to ride the train to Union Station then walk to go through the physical. Still had C&NW an E8 in yellow and green pulling C&NW passenger cars. Never cared for Amtrak...

Model Railroader Mag. Inspiration or Intimidation?

I remember John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid , I thought it was a feature article in the 60's . My father had that magazine and we always looked at it. I just have a pile of older rail road magazines that I either bought used from the days when there still were real model train stores here. I...

Question , I had three of the Stewart VO-1000's.

I just got a Athearn S12 shell and frame and power trucks , Thank you Greg. I used to be able to deal with the hood width. I found scale drawings of both the VO 1000 and S12 and as far as I can tell the VO1000 has a 5' 69" wide hood and the S12 is 6' at least from the drawings . I was able to...

Question , I had three of the Stewart VO-1000's.

It's been so long ago I don't recall what the frame was . I know it was metal I don't recall the metal frame sitting up inside the shell adding the extra weight. Like was done with the stewart F-3's yet I've seen photo's of the frames. I may not have ever removed the shells to look. They just...

I have this AHM SW1 plastic frame and shell , wanted to fit an Athearn bb Sw7 frame in it yet.

This shell is the same size as the Athearn SW7. The main issue is the pilots are open and gluing anything will render the same results as the area I need to build up under the walk way so the Athearn SW7 frame edge fits and does not show. Over all it seems more trouble than it's worth. I'm not...

Question , I had three of the Stewart VO-1000's.

If I recall they didn't have much weight to them and I think they made a S12 or one like it yet never saw one. Did the S12 have a heavy metal frame with more weight or was this Bowser who now owns Stewart?

I have this AHM SW1 plastic frame and shell , wanted to fit an Athearn bb Sw7 frame in it yet.

styrene cement won't touch the stuff . I need to build the sills down a bit . I have no idea what it's made of and I'm not sure what the shell is made of . Is super glue the only thing that will work? I never ran across this before. It's ether Delrin or maybe nylon. Haven't been able to locate...

The C Virus and MRR clubs

I was 17 when it came out , I remember it well. I believe this corona virus exists yet I also feel it was not by accident and I'm not going to allow this to instill fear in me. It also reminds me of one of those things we will never know the truth about.

I am really having a though time with hand rails

Most of the loco's I did came from ideas in rail road magazines , some were rebuilds like RS-3 with EMD long hoods or Baldwins AS 16 ot 616 with EMD long hoods , I saw a photo in a rail road mag that had what where called Buffalo's they had the low short hood yet C&NW had the AS16 and 616 high...
