    4x8 Ho Layout

Future DCC question & switch.... Well, while i wait for my foam risers to come in the mail(for the helix and downgrades), i guess I'll get to the tedious work of soldering most of the joints. Anyone have a good recommendation on wires? i am currently running DC, but i want to setup for future...

    4x8 Ho Layout

I was able to design one with #6, i couldn't get it to line up properly with a #4 In any case, i'll probably use the pic above and add this into the center loops.

    4x8 Ho Layout

i ran out of turnouts.... lol ( i do have brass but i don't like to mix ) i want to get a double crossover, but money is tight, and i am not about to drop a bill on one just yet... i have been looking at some #6 turnouts with a 19* crossover but right now i am focused on the outside loop...

    4x8 Ho Layout

i am trying to hit a total of 4 inch height on the start of the bridge, and fall back down to the layout platform. doing the small helix will give me the lowest grade of about 3%-3.5% i wont be running a 20 car train on it. smaller is fine for now. once i get my risers in i'll be posting a...

    4x8 Ho Layout

Thanks! Still working on the numbers. 3% up, trying to get a 2% down, even if i have to isolate the outside track as just a loop without turnouts. I am also waiting for my foam grade kit to come in the mail.

    4x8 Ho Layout

From design to life. I know 4x8 is old and from the past, we have moved on, but it is a great starter layout for my son and I, and eventually when i have a dedicated room, i can expend. 3 loop system, small helix on the outer mainline. wont be having any long trains until i expand and go...

    Beginning Layout

turnouts complete the look, and i can still transfer trains from one rail to another by matching speeds on the controller. Also easier to make the layout with switches now for when or if i switch to DCC and yes, i am still working on all the numbers to get a full 3 inch of clearance. my...

    Beginning Layout

To clarify, Yes i am running HO scale. The helix grade curve should be only 3%, my base layout starts at 1 inch and the initial climb goes to 4.3 inch's as seen in the picture and yes i am running 3 older MRC RailPower 1100 power packs, each pack will connect to each individual loop for 3...

    Beginning Layout

Hi Cj, yes I still run the old horn hook, most of my equipement is from the late 70's up to early 90's. The Kadee couplers are a great option and will be looking into them once i get the layout set and some trains rolling around. I have alot of cars and engines to do, more that what is pictured.

    Beginning Layout

New to forum, getting back into model railroad. What do you think, i'll be doing a 1/4inch plywood with 1x4 frames, 2x4 legs, and using 1inch foam board as a base and a couple more sheets of foam for mountains ect. 4x8 Layout, 3 loop system (insulators at each turnout), 3 rail power 1100...
