That is exactly what I do.
I have a set of cotton flannel sheets for winter and regular cotton sheets for summer. I do have a back-up set of both folded in the closet.
I'm single and folding sheets is wasted time for me.

I have two pieces of 12' x 18' safety glass I purchased 20 years ago or so.
As stated these are for special projects, not everyday use. Great when you need flat & level surface.
