    DCC Decoder

I'm the new guy getting into trains, etc. I purchased Lionel Berkshire Set. The instructions state it's already equipped with a DCC decoder. "If you wish to replace the Lionel decoder with a decoder from another manufacturer". It goes on telling me how to do this. My question is once I purchase...

    Using Tech 3 Power Command

I purchased this at a train show for $80. I think I did okay with that. Now I need to learn how to connect things to it. Can I run more than 1 train on this or do I need to get buses and what exactly are they? I suppose I can hook up 4 turnouts to it, I did also purchased 4 tortoises and I...

    Transition question for a newby

I just received 3 backdrops, 1 city, 1 autumn mountain & 1 sky. My main problem is how to transition from city to sky. The city buildings just end abruptly. What does the experienced railroaders say about this? My overall plan is to have a 4 X 16 platform with a train yard using the city on 1...

    New Guy on board

I'm about $1K into lumber, 2" foam boards (2), train set etc. I have a few ideas in my head and making plans to go from 1 4' X 4' to 4 X 16. That'll be all of the room I have for this venture.

    New Guy on board

    My adventures in Ho Scale.

It appears to me that the construction is pretty heavy stuff. To a new guy. Why such construction and not just 3/4 plywood? I used to build decks and furniture, In the pictures it looks like deck construction. :)
