My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

Got some more painting done on the river and rock rabbled the edges. Epoxy pouring is nearly complete. Got to decide if I want one more layer or not. Also need to keep my fingers crossed that my mold release agent worked on the dams I used. I did a test pour on my swamp module. It did not come...

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

Rock and pier weathering was today's task. The process went really well. Well to the point that I had to stop myself before I started being concerned about the structural stability of my bridges. 🤣 Then I ordered some epoxy from Walmart. Should be here is a couple of days. Want to get the...

    Ken Patterson HO fire

I just installed two smoke detectors in the basement. One at the foot of the stairs (Admittedly overdue as the old one had died some time ago), and the second in the train room itself. Nothing like seeing someone else's tragedy to spark you out of laziness.

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

This morning's work: The glue is still wet in the road ditches. I went a little too heavy with the glue, so I sifted a little extra dirt on top. You can see the spots where the glue was absorbed more efficiently. The background to layout transition is not quite as good as I had hoped, but...

    Review of Portable Airbrush

A couple lessons learned the other night: 1.) If your going to put the air brush away for a while, never assume that clean enough is clean enough. 2.) Never mix the heavy, cheap, Walmart acrylics IN the paint cup. 3.) If you ignore 1 & 2 above, you will become VERY familiar with the cleaning...

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

Been busy painting. After I got the brown done, my eldest came down into the train room and asked what I was doing. My response: "Building a chocolate sculpture, apparently..." 🤣 With the rocky ledges greyed up and the bridge piers & abutments concreted, it doesn't look too bad. Next step...

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

The plastering on the module is done... ish... I think... I also got my roadbed laid - both the rail and car roads. I used old, recycled roadbed for the auto road in the gully. New stuff for the trains. Most of the plaster go put down yesterday and some of it is still not dry. Using the DAP...

    Realistic Water Too Dark

I agree that I think it looks pretty good! If you take Selector's advice and use the Mod Podge, I would say tint it ever so slightly green. I would also be perfectly happy with the current outcome.

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

Yesterday was spent building the Pratt deck truss bridge and painting it the same color as the truss. Today was making plans and cuts and getting it set into place. Had to make a bit of a relief cut into the left side, but I figure that's what a real RR would do to get to a solid footing...

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

Spent some time staring at the gully for a while the other night. Think I have come up with a plan that works for me: I'll use some plaster to mold the blue towel into place. That will (should) give it a nice, organic feel (I think). I'm pretty happy with the visual at least, so I think I'll...

    A Beginner's Journey Pt 2

It could have been the continuous running that caused the problem. As the locos ran, the track settled in and shifted ever so slightly causing the eventual problem.

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

This all worked beautifully in my head, but in practice, it's not working out so great... :( Working on the forward bridge first. Got the mid piers all build. Going to be concrete piers as they are popular around here. I made them out of 2x4 as I have found I am much better at shaping wood than...

    Review of Portable Airbrush

Played around with the air brush last night trying to weather a section of ballast. Sorry, no pics, but it came out fairly well. :) I did find a good use for the constantly blowing air: Finding any loose ballast that had not gotten glued down. 😁 Apparently I missed a few spots... 🤦‍♂️ Happened...

My Sectional Layout - Please Mind the Gap.

I was trying to figure out the best way to work the topography of the bottom layer, and came to the conclusion that cutting it up into section would be the best bet. This let me carve down individual sections, make a gradual elevation decline of the road and lower the river just a touch. When...

Body Inserts for Athearn BB Models?

To better illustrate what I mean, here is a shot from the parts schematic from my Rivarossi U25C. This weight is under the shell and holds the front, marker and number board lights at the front and the rear (You can also see the radiator fan in the rear). It's the same set up in my Atlas and...
