Finally, Santafewillies layout thread - revived Feb 2026

I've forgotten if I ever ask this question(s) Did you ever try to run a Bachmann northern (4-8-4) on your layout? If so, did you find it lacking some pulling power for longer trains? Your layout is sizable length, did you ever have problems with any other steamers pulling long trains? PS...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

Not so sure about that,..I recall contacting 3 manufactures about doing a 'plastic' cyrogenic car after seeing the Overland brass one. It took a number of years before BLI decided to do one at a pretty reasonable price in todays plastic market, and an extremely reasonable price compared to...

Are you happy with the scale you picked vs the space you have?

Your eyesight gets worst with age, often slowly, but often. I was helping a few fellows with their N gauge when I first rentered the hobby at age 60. My eyesight was very good then, but I still had trouble rerailing those cars. At 62 now I know I would be having lots of trouble and...

    RTR powered freight/reefer 'pusher' car

What if I could buy a RTR powered freight car that I could simply put behind my model steam engine and make it more realistic and more powerful. I realize that I could simply use some diesel engine model, but I would like to have that diesel engine (pusher) camouflaged / disguised as an...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

That REA Express Refrigerator Car by BLI could be utilized by many different steamers, and that shell would fit on the Kato chassis,.. Better yet, I wonder if BLI would be interested in building their own chassis to fit under their existing shell,...lower development and tooling costs...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

This is the other steamer that needs a little help,....a Bachmann 4-8-4 And it could benefit with an REA shelled pusher,..

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

Santa Fe Mechanical Refrigeration Pusher Car I happen to have 2 SF steam engines that could use a little help,....a Heritage 2-8-8-2, and a Bachmann 4-8-4. Here is my choice for a pusher-helper refrigerator car for those SF locos,.. I have a couple of versions of that mech-refrig...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

Note that the smaller trucks on the bottom car are from the shorter chassis that came from the ConCor engines. I actually prefer these on that size car,...but it does involve making use of the shorter Kato chassis that needs to be lengthened via method I have shown HERE...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

I'm hoping to entice some manufacturer to build some of these pusher-helper express freight cars that we could just buy retail to give a little boost to our steam engines. Perhaps they could offer it just as a chassis, onto which the buyer could place his own particular shell? And likely it...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

So I started this subject thread a number of years ago,.. Improving Our Steam Engines Performance https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/improving-our-steam-engines-performance-12219656 It went on & on about my search for a diesel engine chassis that I might disguise for that task. I was having real...

Ever Been Disappointed with your Steam Engines Pulling Power?

Basically I have been a little disappointed at times by the pulling power of some of my MODEL train steamers,...they lack the capabilities and images I have of their prototype brethren. What if I could buy a RTR powered freight car that I could simply put behind that steam engine and make it...

    Repairing Rivarossi Cab-Forward Engine

I'm pretty sure you are NOT going to find those 'replacement parts' you might be seeking. You might be better off just building a 'pusher-helper' freight car,.. https://modelrailroadforums.com/forum/index.php?threads/improving-our-steam-engines-performance.34036/page-7#post-604125...

Wanted: Inoperable Articulated Steam Engine, HO scale

BTW, I have already shown I can push a Mantua 0-6-6-0 and a Broadway 2-8-8-2 around my layout without derailments. I want to experience even more examples.

Wanted: Inoperable Articulated Steam Engine, HO scale

Is there anyone out there that has an articulated steam engine they have given up on.?? I'm looking to run some experiments on a 'powered pusher'... I would be stripping out the motor & drive line system in the boiler portion, and pushing that chassis with a 'powered pusher freight car' I've...

Is it possible?,...pushing a Un-Powered Articulated Steam Engine

One might notice that there is no connecting bar between the 2 trucks on that BLI 2-8-8-2 .

Is it possible?,...pushing a Un-Powered Articulated Steam Engine

I've had 2 successful testings thus far. I'm now waiting on 1 or 2 other (used, old, whatever) articulated chassis to run test on
