Picture this for a minute. You have an iPad or a computer and you open up a simple app. You can easily switch/swipe between each locomotive on your track or press a button in the top right to select a specific one quickly. On each page you have full control of that train with real time feedback...

If you read my posts you would see that's not what I'm doing. ;-)
DCC is very old (20+ years, think of what's changed since then) and it's pricey and very limiting. The controllers are also very bulky and overly complicated, why can't I easily and cheaply create my own either in software or...

Yeah, this took a few days to do and what commands it responds to hasn't been sorted out I just wanted to make sure everything works. I didn't know that project existing, that's pretty nice, has anyone tried installing one of those yet? They have some of the same ideas I have in regards to...

Work in progress, I need to shrink the circuit down and try to fit it into the locomotive but my proof of concept is working. I'm doing this because I think DCC is too expensive and limiting. Any ideas on making this better would be appreciated.

Two sets of six lights? Are the top lights for the main line and the bottom for the turnout?
What's going on in this picture? :-)

Like in this shot from the video above. Why are there four lights?
-
D
Yes, like that. I'm going to have block detection and turnout position. I'm writing my own software to control it which you can switch to manual or auto I just want to make sure I get everything right. From what I understand the light is green if two blocks in front are open, yellow if only the...

Basic Vertical color light signals found on most US tracks

So, here is my example layout.
blocks are solid lines.
Signals are off to the sides (Direction it faces is shown with the arrow)
Here are my questions:
Is this correct? Are the signals in the right places?
Assuming this layout how many lights would each signal get? I'm guessing twos where...

It's odd it happens on one of the switches but not the other. I'll play around with it, wish I had another switch to swap out.

I still can't find much stuff but I found enough to give it a go.
I put 12V DC on either red or green while black was ground and it would switch (Very quickly). I tapped the lead to the wire since it can't have constant power or it will burn out. Thanks.

Thanks, that's useful but it's using a control which I don't want to do so I have to know how the actual remote switch works in order to control it.

Can't find it anywhere, don't want to fry it. I'm not using dcc but I want to control these with a simple circuit. Does anyone know how it works and what power it can handle?

New set today and one of my two switches makes the car slow down and get stuck. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is it a switch issue that's common?
It's this switch: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/544-Code-83-22-Manual-Left-Hand-Switch-p/atl-544.htm...

Just got it today and it appears to short the track. When I put it on the track the train wont run, it appears it's not getting enough current. If I pop one of the wheels out it works so it's only one axel.
Car...
