    Thanks guys! I actually understand the difference now. And since you can't really have one without the other, I can see where the terminology gets interchanged.

    Oh boy! A newbie with all sorts of basic questions! Just what this forum needed, eh? So, basic question #1: What's the difference between a switch and a turnout? Is it just the same thing by a different name, or are there different functions?

    Hi gang! I reckon I'll be more of a lurker than a contributor in these forums. I'm not trying to be anti-social or anything, it's just I don't have a lot to contribute just yet. I mean, I can tell the difference between O, HO, & N guage track, but that's about the limit of my "expertise"...
