Received Track Bent, can it be fixed?

24 buys on Ebay and NOT one problem.
Not lucky like you new guy, no estate sales in our area, though I'd like or hope to see one sometime.
I buy my stuff online, but now with the exchange rate, I'll be driving an hour to my nearest hobby shop.

Back to the bent turnout, Like Motley said "File a dispute with paypal."

An 'almost' family member works for an auctioneer and they do sales all over the state and I was lucky again in meeting a guy last year that attends a lot of auctions and is 'dealing' in that kind of stuff. I keep forgetting everybody is not close by, y'all seem like next door types!

I hear pay-pal is good with that kind of thing, and ebay is supposedly getting better, they seem to want to take care of customers.

I've been buying and selling on ebay since 2002. Never once had any "horror stories" buying trains.

Of course I buy all my equipment from reputable sellers with high feedback ratings. I stay away from sellers that don't offer returns. Most of the stuff I buy is brand new. Never buy used equipment.

A few months ago I was selling Athearn Genesis 4-8-4 Northern. Apparantly during shipping the headlight wires came loose and was not working. The buyer wanted me to refund him $35 so he could take it to his LHS to fix it. Hey things come loose during shipping, weather its brand new in the factory box. No damage was done, just the wire came loose. I refused to send him $35 for repairs. But I did offer to refund him the full amount if he sent it back. Never heard another word from him since.

Definitely try to get satisfaction from the seller and then e-bay. That bend is in a bad place to attempt to fix it. Even if you could bend the rails back, it looks like the bend is right at the beginning of the frog, and the closure rails would probably separate from the plastic ties! :(

Just an FYI, the seller refunded me for the broken turnouts.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I am still holding off on starting my layout. I might have to scale it down quite a bit, or go in another direction. Still need to fix a few things that popped up over the holidays.

Good to know you got the proper result.

Good to hear you got a satisfactory resolution to your problem. Don't give up on EBay, like Motley said, pick your sellers wisely and know what you are buying. I've bought 34 times on EBay and have never had a problem, sometimes I've gotten extremely good deals. Good luck on your future purchases!

I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but I decided to try and move forward with a plan that was given to me. Well, I ordered the most expensive parts, the #8 curved turnouts. They arrived from USPS bent in the box. I took one out, and it is bent.

Is there a way to bend this back, or is this $50 (each!) in the trash? I contacted the seller on ebay, but I kind of doubt I will get recourse there.

Opinions? Thank you.

If they are not to bent and not too damaged you can use them as if the tracks were being unmaintained, left in disrepair, going through ruff and dangerous mountain terrain and/or old abandoned line. Which would add some caution to go slow and steady.

At $50 apiece, that would be kinda' hard to swallow in merely using them as track in disrepair.
And if $50 apiece is expensive enough in today's economy, just think how hurtful on the ol' billfold that was 9 years ago! o_O;)
