Railroad

Is this forum going to be overrun with polls/poles?

The first forum I followed was the Model Railroader one, starting several years go. They too had the ability for any member to start a poll. There weren't very many at first, until those who didn't have anything constructive to add to the forum discovered polls.

Then they really got going, really useless so called "polls" - "what's your favorite railroad, engine, manufacturer, car type, paint, scale", era, etc., etc., etc. Then of course most of them were recylcled over and over. Then the sillier ones came up - "what's your favorite TV show, snack item, etc." Seemed like teenagers were taking over the forum with polls.

If and when anyone said anything against all of the useless space taking polls, there was always the answer - if you don't like them, don't read them. Great advice, but the main problem was all of the polls were taking over way too much space on the forum pages. Log on and the main page had half or more of the posts on polls. Relevant and useful posts were then pushed down, often being overlooked or overtaken by the sillyness of the polls.

Hope that doesn't happen here, it would be a shame. Perhaps the moderators can somehow do something to keep things in check?
