My first scratch built house.

This house is part of a bridge diorama. It is 1/72 scale. It is not a railway scale as such, but may provide some ideas for the beginner in scratch building. My methods are my own, so they may be wrong or complicated, but my background in designing dictates how I went about it.

The actual house.

Proportioning the house. Builds generally follow a standard, such as door sizes. From this, the whole house can be estimated.

I am using 1/8" Masonite. The foundation is built on a substrate that will be fitted into the diorama after completion.

I used thin plastic from a tape-cassette covers for windows. The interior walls were added to allow me to create individual room lighting.

The roof is detachable to provide access to interior.

Designed, tested and built electronics for sequencing the house lights; to mimic somebody going from one room to the next.
