I am a 77 year old novice and am building a layout for my two pre school grand children. I am using Kato unitrack with an old gaugemaster dual track controller. Building a double loop so they can each have an engine. Looks i have a lot to learn but am looking foreward to it.

Hello, Meandering. Welcome to the Forum. A great bunch here.

Building a layout for two grandchildren eh?

May I offer a little advice?

Build the layout so you can operate comfortably by yourself. The grandchildren will not always be there with you.
Have the layout so two or three operators can run trains also.

If you do any scenery and it gets broken, do not get angry. Smile and fix it later. After all you broke it. (Been there)

A biggy. When the children move on to other things, (and they will) smile, say nothing and let them move on. Because you have said nothing they come back to see how the layout has grown. When they go you still have a layout to operate your way.

I have five grandchildren and all have ran trains since they were three years of age. Oh they come and go. After all soccer and basketball is fun.

Younger granddaughter ran trains less than a month ago

Older granddaughter has her own 0 gauge garden layout. just a little of what she brought to our house.

When the grandchildren are visiting, HAVE FUN. Passengers on a train

Thank you for you kind words. The children look great.
I will be developing the layout as time goes bye to incorperate more for me and hopefully the grandchildren will grow with it also. I am certainly having great joy out of the hobby. I have a lot to learn and am excited about it.

Can't go wrong with Kato equipment, track or otherwise. Are you talking about the small n-scale here or HO?

With pre-school there is a lot of time for them to enjoy the trains.

What a great picture, thank you.
I only have n gauge. Wish i had the space for a larger scale
At one time I had a. 00/HO layout on an old ironing board. I consisted of a one road station, run round, locomotive shed and two goods sidings.
One siding had a goods depot, the other a loading dock for animals; horses on my layout.

Granted the rolling stock had to be small, but it really was a fun layout to operate

Sorry I'm a bit late with this, but welcome!
