DC Constant Lights

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Just so we're on the same page, is the motor running backwards relative to the NMRA standard, or just to some other engines? Do you care or not care that it runs in one way or the other? If you want the engine to run in the standard way, you have to reverse the motor connections before you deal with the constant lighting circuit. Which direction does the engine move with (+) voltage on the right hand rail and (-) on the left, as the crew sees it?

By the way, since both diode circuits are actually identical except for the direction they are wired, you have the option of simply rotating them in place, rather than swapping them (if that makes it any easier).

Another crazy thing, you can reverse the engine direction by reversing the permanent magnet direction. :)
