A novices question

Hi after 30 years I have dug out my old electric train set since my grandson is mad about trains. I have an MRC power unit (pictured) and am holding the connections(pictured). I assumed the connection to the switch track connectors (3rd picture) would be just a matter of plugging in the connectors but they don’t appear to fit.
I am probably making a rookie error but any advice would be appreciated so I can get this working for Christmas.

There are two sets of power output from the controller. One should be marked something like DC to track. Hopefully that is where the red wire(s) I see in the photo are connected. The other end should plug directly into a special rail section. This section will have a widened part other than the rail ties. That should make the train go.

The other piece looks like a switch track controller with the green wire. Green wires should go to the turnout. There should be a second set of wires connected to the controller with the two outputs marked ACC. That wire should plug into the side of the controller button where the two "red" fingers are going off to the left in photo (which would be "right" when top up.) You can see a little black tab in the plastic that fits the notch in the plug being held in the hand. That should make the turnout change.

I don't know what the four little wires are off to the right. These are supposed to plug controller to controller so I am guessing that is what those would be for.

Thank you so much. I bought a power track to I could link the controller to. It was able to light up the engine but no movement. I have boxed it back up and will mess with it after Christmas

The grease has probably dried out and locked all of the gearing. You will have to clean this out and re-grease the gears and lube the axles. You should also clean the oxide from the wheels and pickups.

If the lights are on, it's getting power.
