Well, that ain't gonna buff out...

So I was giving my daughter a bit of grief about crunching the car. Today I crunched our other car, got the fender, headlight and hood. A combination of not having driven the car in a couple months, worn tires, rain, speed, a corner and a tree. Fortunately, the impact was about as hard as...

    Coal Hopper Question….

The coal is abrasive, keeping them clean below the fill line. In modern times, after loading they are sprayed with a latex surfactant to keep blowing dust down. It acts as a glue, gluing blowing coal dust to the side of the cars above the load line so the car has a black ring around the top...

Well, that ain't gonna buff out...

There was that time the train hit a barge by Ft Madison, IA.

Well, that ain't gonna buff out...

I said the same thing when my teenager brought the car home a few days ago. It was only one corner though, not the whole thing.

    Help on Locomotive vents

See if Plano has something. Traditionally, you cut them off another shell, sand as thin as you can and glue to the new shell. For doors look at Cannon and Company.

Adjusting height of Chooch bridge abutments (resin cast)

I guess it is polyester resin, when I did a lot of casting that is what we used. It is soft enough but challenging to cut, a bandsaw makes long floating strings in the air. Maybe just occupational exposure, but some people I worked with have developed sensitivity to polyester resin and have to...

You only bought a loco, I bought a car. And I don't even have a job at the moment.... oops.

    Bachmann locomotives

I have never bought a decoder specific to a locomotive. Is there not space or is there a different reason only a specific decoder will work?

    Bachmann locomotives

I tried to find similar images of the Bachmann and prototype to compare. Look at where the red stripe is on the radiators and windows. Notice the relationship between the windows and top of the hood, shape of dynamic brake blister, etc. For $280, I'd pick Scale Trains or even Athearn with...

    Bachmann locomotives

I only have one, a 45 tonner. It runs very well. I have seen photos of others, the GP7/9s look pretty good, the SD40-2 not as much, the nose and cab are off. I guess I would say it depends on the model.

    Updating an older RTR SD45

I’ve been using Buddy Boards for DCC installs lately. They have a 21 pin plug and pads to solder to. There is a plug for lights in the shell so they can be separated for maintenance.

Current and lights and things OH MY!!

Do you have any specs? What voltage and current do the lights require. Some work at 12V. The math is very simple if you know the values. Resistance = (Voltage supply minus Voltage light)/Current light

    Contemporary Cardstock Houses

Instead of photos, I’ve also just used textures from the web. I made a large corrugated warehouse with a sample of siding found online. Doesn’t get past the B&W printer issue though.

Milwaukee Road Engine # 1802 as Built (1944) Color Scheme Question

I just found the Diesel Shop page and the color photo looks like the standard Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray.

Milwaukee Road Engine # 1802 as Built (1944) Color Scheme Question

Do you have any other equipment? I wouldn’t worry too much about it being “ correct” as much as matching the rest of the equipment. https://utahrails.net/up/up-diesel-paint-classic-era.php

    Contemporary Cardstock Houses

There is the classic print photos onto your house drawing. It takes knowledge of photo manipulation software but the results look pretty good. It’s a process Lance Mindheim uses.
