Is this hobby still worth it?

I dunno. To give the air pump something to hook up to, I guess. ;):p

    Gluing track

Same here. I use Loc-Tite Power Grab, as it seems to be a little stronger than the Dap Acrylic Latex Caulk. Goes on white and dries clear. I have used it to glue cork roadbed down to pink foam, holding the cork in place with pushpins. Or if gluing down to wood, you'll want to use weights or...

Is this hobby still worth it?

Same here. Me and the wife had a couple of very nice aquariums for the first 10 years or so in our younger days. But we eventually got tired of all the maintenance and upkeep required to keep them clean and healthy. So we finally got rid of them. Still, I always liked the looks of an...

What can be used in place of the factory Atlas ground throw for manual code 80 switches?

You can roll your own like I did here. I cut and bent some green floral wire to shape to push/pull the points. I secured them to the plywood with some U-shaped staples made from .020 piano wire, and pushed into the plywood. The staples are pushed down tight and merely hold the floral wire by...

Walther's refuses to honor Life-Likes Life Time Guarantee

Chances are good that this loco has oxidized electrical contacts from sitting for so long in its jewel case. And possibly hardened grease in the gears. A good servicing should easily bring it back to life. If you can find some N-scalers in your area, I'm sure one of them could help you out...

    layout height

Don't forget, if your table is big enough that it is next to impossible to lean up against a wall and install/work on wiring, then you need to have it tall enough to be able to comfortably work on the wiring while sitting and/or sliding around on the floor underneath of it.

Whistle tender struggling | Lionel 2046

Probably both the loco and the tender could use a good cleaning/servicing. There are now plenty of YouTube videos made by a variety of content creators about doing this. Do a search and start watching some of them. Old postwar Lionel locos are quite easy to work on, and spare parts are...

    It runs!

Touch the soldering iron to the work (make sure the work is clean, and the tip is clean and tinned). At the same time, touch your solder to the work, about 1/8" away or so from the tip of the iron. When the work gets to the proper temperature (should only take a few seconds or so), the solder...

    It runs!

With the properly-sized soldering iron, proper techniques, and a little bit of practice, anyone should be able to produce decent solder joints. Here's some pic's of a soldering job I did several years ago on a little Atlas N-scale code 80 test layout that I built................... At #6...

    Plastic cement for Walthers buildings?

The problem I've found with super glue is.............. half the time, it seems to glue everything together except for the pieces you are trying to join! :p

    Deacon's HO TTrak module build

I've got that station in both N-scale and O-scale! The N-scale station was packaged by Model Power in the past, and was called the "Erie Station". I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was also packaged by AHM and probably others at various times in the past. The O-scale version has been...

    Plastic cement for Walthers buildings?

I use MEK paint thinner for most of my plastic gluing. Watery-thin, so you apply it with a small paint brush, say a 0 or 00 or similar. It won't span gaps, so you must have tight-fitting joints to begin with and let it wick in. Use with GOOD ventilation, as it is pretty volatile stuff. But...

Turnouts won't align with crossing help!

Agreed. Most likely a Snap Switch.

Walthers Truss Bridge - Is bridge track required?

If being realistic is not all that important, you could simply run sectional track or flex track across the bridge, and not even bother with guardrails. I did this on a Walthers N-scale Double-Track Truss Bridge on my N-scale layout, and it has never bothered me in the least.
