Hotwire type knife on sale at harbor freight

I just bought one the other day. It's definitely not a quality tool, but it worked. I never expect anything from Harbor Freight to last. If I buy something from there, it's because I don't expect to use it much, or I just want to try it before I spend a lot of money on a high quality item...

Building a layout from scratch (Need Advice)

Get yourself some of these and a yardstick. Then you can mark out any size radius you want, and lay your flex track along the line. http://www.micromark.com/YARDSTICK-COMPASS,6560.html Kerry

Building a layout from scratch (Need Advice)

1: 1.5/75 = 0.02. You are correct! You can get away with is being a steeper grade if necessary. 2: Atlas Code 100 would probably be the cheapest route. #8 switches will look better, but #6 will work fine. 3: Use flex track! You are right about having fewer joints. 4: I'm guess a bit...

Details West also has relay cabinets as well. You would probably benefit from buying a Walthers Catalog. It's so much better to just page through it and see all the good stuff that is available. Come to think of it, I should buy a new one too. It's been a few years...... Kerry

    Lumber loads

Do a search at Walthers on 'lumber load'. The Jaeger products are a kit. You gat a bunch of little blocks of wood and pieces of paper to wrap them in. They look very nice, but they do take time! Kerry

    Doughnut shaped layout?

You could easily support another operator if you build something like the HOG layout. Personally, I think having a second operator will be MUCH MORE than twice the fun! Op till you drop!!! Kerry

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Okay, I'm going to push the HOG some more. Here's an idea. Use the HOG pretty much as is but, increased the depth of 3 out of 4 of the wall segments from 12" to 18". I know one of your concerns is not having many buildings. I think this would allow more room for structures. I've also...

    New 10 x 12 Layout

I'm still a big fan of the Heart Of Georgia layout as a small layout with operating potential. There's a Yahoo group about it. I haven't joined, but should, just to check out the files area to see how people have modified the original to fit their application. Kerry...
