Source for freight cars

I have a small tabletop layout, not much in the way of scenery or structures, but I would like to add some freight cars. I see some fantastic rolling stock on offer but the prices are a bit out of my reach. Are there inexpensive sets of additional freight cars or sources for cars? Thanks.

With the current pandemic-induced supply chain shortages and quarantine demand for sales, there isn’t a whole lot of reasonably priced stuff out there. Unless you are wanting 30+ year old train set stuff, and that is still a lot more than it was just a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised, though, that manufacturers don't really have an inventory of 5, 6, or 8 freight only sets. I've seen one from Kato that's cars only and many kits from Bachmann that are full starter train sets including track and engine

Go on e-Bay and search Athearn blue box. You’ll find tons of cheap freight car “shake the box” kits.

I didn’t notice the forum, but same answer. Search n scale freight cars on e-Bay. Loads of cheapies
