First week in Indy is done in prep for the Combine next week. Got to knock off a little early today and walk around the area a bit.
This is the view of Union Station from this week's hotel room. Lucas Oil Stadium is on the right.
Zoomed in. CSX all day and one consist when I was heading into the building had two BNSF GE black swoosh leading two CSX GE into the tan "tunnel" to the right.
Walking home from dinner I barely caught these two Indiana Railroad SD40-2s 4003 and 4004. Figures that they had to show up while I didn't have a good vantage point.
I'll have some free time tomorrow to go out and scout.
your in my old stomping grounds just make sure if your out at night its somewhere lighted Indy gets sketchy after dark. also If you want good bakery stuff go to longs bakery

Thanks for the heads up, been working the Combine since 2018, been through some sketchy areas, but never at night. LOL Know of any really good places to rail fan? I was going to head out west past the Speedway after I hit the museum tomorrow (it was closed last year for renovations).
Also, any good train shops near downtown?

their is train central on shade land he has good stuff at good prices then if you go south their is atrains on main in greenwood also a good railfan spot for Louisville and Indiana and csx. their is senate yard on senate ave. I just moved last year so I'm not real sure on the other sports but if you stay around lucas oil the greyhound and Amtrak station makes some good railfanning and people watching lol. also their is the big four yard in Avon. also if your on Facebook their is Indian bull session group it was a forum but it has since gone to facebook. lots of good people on there
1651 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219 is for train central
Thanks so much for the info. Haven't seen any Amtrak yet at Union, but then I spend all day up at IU Methodist. Next week is even longer hours per day working, at least 12h, was only doing 10h/day this past week.
Going to heading out soon. I think I can park in the garage next to Union Station and railfan from therefor a little bit too while waiting for Train Central to open (found his website).
I haven't had facebook for 5 years now.

yea I don't have Facebook either I don't want it.
Spent about an hour at Train Central but didn't grab anything. Wasn't sure anything would survive the airline trip back home. Nice shop, lots of used stuff to look through.
Just my luck as I was pulling back into the hotel parking lot CSX 911 (the red First Responders one) went by, I wasn't able to get my phone out and logged into in time to get a picture. <sigh>

Bummer! That would of been a nice catch!
While waiting for the rest of our crew yesterday, had a little time to explore. Ran across this Indiana Southern CP40-2 idling on a siding. Will be stuck in the hospital until Saturday late morning. Hope to get out again after we finish teardown and crating. Fly home Sun morning.
