My name is Jeremy and I'm getting back into the hobby at 47 years old after an extended hiatus since about 1997 or so. Currently doing HO scale, and I have 2 kids 12 and 9 that are I think going to be enjoying this hobby as well. We were at a railway museum near Montgomery State Park in TN on a camping trip and the boys really latched onto the enthusiasm and joy the railroad crew had there about their layout, which was designed to be a historical representation of much of the town of Dickson TN. The museum itself is an old hotel that once was the temporary home for lots of travelers back in the day. It apparently was a busy hub. Most of the buildings are scratch built to be models of the actual structures that were once there (and some that still are). Those guys are really history buffs and really love to share. If you are ever near there, I highly recommend checking that museum out.
Anyhow, that brought about my old love for model trains as well, so we have gotten the old layout back up and running. It's an old Atlas 4x12 design that I had used way back, but never did finish the scenery. However, our basement is much larger so we are going to scrap the plan and start anew. Going to be fun.
I see lots of things have changed now, most for the better.
