One of my favourite layouts for sure!

Good to hear from you. How's that layout of yours coming along. I was always interested in how you were going to incorporate that ship model with your trains.

… One problem is that my 2 steam locomotives can't be turned on the turntable. I did add a few more tracks to the table to accommodate a few more engines. The track with the UP -NW-2 is the program track.

A prototypical problem often solved by having a track aligned so the too long loco can just run straight across the table to an appropriately sized track. Turning then needs to be done on a wye but it can at least be serviced.

Actually, that's how I use the table. What I try do is house all the locos so that "forward" brings them to the turntable. In the steamers case, they must be backed across the table so "forward" puts them on the turntable. While my layout is a pretty good size, there is no room for a wye.

Hey TH, there is zero happening right now. I started taking it apart to move into another room. I am retiring after next month so will have much more time to progress it again. The ship will be built on its own section that will slide adjacent to my Halifax side. I have switched to an around the room layout.

It has been a while since I have updated this thread. In my quest to replace plastic kits with laser cut, I have a new one, changed out today. A couple of before and after shots. The kit is N Scale Architect's Williamstown Coal. Like most N scale kits there are some tedious parts. I replaced the included trim with 1/16" styrene angle.

Looks great. I much prefer laser-cut kits. I wish there were more out there with more variety.

There is a Swiss company that you can order from that produces some really impressive kits. All laser-cut wood. $$$.
