If we're talking about the same thing, a pancake compressor that comes from a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes, they generally go considerably beyond 20 PSI. They are designed to run things like nail guns . The one at my model railroad club is capable of up to 120 PSI. I'd recommend you put a quality regulator on it. You'll notice a big difference immediately.

I definitely agree with Alan. My first non hobby compressor was the red pancake one from HomeDepot along with 4 various air guns. Get a gauge and dial in the PSI that will make your spray painting much nicer

No no I'm talking like the real tiny ones, mine is roughly 4 inch square. Pretty sure it just has the little diaphragm pump in there.

Vallejo, Army Painter and Reaper use very fine pigments and will spray much better than the craft water based acrylics. Reaper has just released a new formulation and the new stuff is really first rate.
I have seen and used, windex type glass cleaner to run through the airbrush to clean. Just make sure you rinse thoroughly with clear water after that as some ammonia cleaners can affect washers in the airbrush if not flushed thoroughly.

For those that prefer a lacquer based paint, MCW Finishes offers car, military and train colors in both a lacquer or enamel. Both thin with regular lacquer thinner
