    Another new guy

MRL had a high nose SD45 in Guilford colors numbered 682. If I remember right, it had one of the highest availability ratings. Until it broke and then was scrapped. https://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4791098

What trains did you run today?

I ran a coal train today lead by BN 5050, an HO Atlas C30-7. Here it is pulling up to the loadout: Here the coal is starting to flow into the first car: A little while later, the train is loaded and is about to knock down the signal as it heads onto the main: And here is a video of it...

What trains did you run today?

Since the second GP39E blew up, 2768 is on its own. Fortunately, they can do track speed since they have ditchlights on both ends.

    Front End Friday

Chances are, between the number and the mismatched panels, BN 5050 has some stories to tell. Atlas, HO, cab and trucks designed and printed by me.

What trains did you run today?

I was doing some switching with my favorite pair of GP39E's (rebuilt GP30's, Burlington Northern nomenclature) and occasionally, they would take a little more throttle to get started. Suddenly, a surprisingly large amount of smoke erupted from one of them and it was making short circuit noises...

Seniority Roster! How long have you been a member here?

I joined in 2004 with a different account which I accidentally locked myself out of and, apparently, it has an unresettable password.

Body Inserts for Athearn BB Models?

The second one won't work on hood units, the ones with a walkway on the sides. The motor takes up all the width inside of the shell and the clips would make it too wide. It should work with F7s and F45s.

Brass O Scale Lobaugh Class B Climax kit

Oxy propane. The oxygen was in a tank from a welding supply. It was in a commercial space but I have friends with them at home. I have one and you can get small bottles of oxygen. I think I got my last one at Home Depot. They are ridiculously expensive and I’m not sure how to dispose of the...

What trains did you run today?

I really miss having photoshop and the ability to make nice photos. Here’s what’s running now, a Railpower/Athearn LMX B39-8E and an Athearn SD40-2. The crew didn’t like returning long hood forward on the LMX so grabbed the SD. Both are unlikely local power but that’s the job for today. The...

    Track looses power

Replacement is probably best, make sure they are for the size rail you have. Most track has a brand molded into the back. If you are very careful you can also squeeze them tighter before you install them on the track. Just don't squash it tight so it won't go on the rail.

    Uncommanded Locomotive Movement

Even though all the throttles are set to 0 when the power is turned off, one of my Digitrax throttles will power up at speed step 1. If it has a loco selected you might notice it not where you left it.

    Coupler Conundrum

The coupler on your locomotive is the least bad of the plastic couplers. It has a metal spring to close the knuckle. I still prefer Kadee. I haven’t ever had a knuckle coupler that wouldn’t connect to another brand of knuckle coupler so whichever you end up with should work fine until you get...

    Front End Friday

Here's a 30ish year old LMX B39-8E crossing the Wallace River. Don't worry, the photo was taken with proper permissions and PPE!

What trains did you run today?

Yeah, so it's been a minute since I started this thread nearly 6! years ago. It seems like an eternity and yesterday simultaneously. Anyway, here's what I was running today, a 30 ish year old model of a LMX B39-8E from a RailPower shell and Athearn drive parts. Powered by a Digitrax DH121...
