I’m planning a out and back with switching both ways. Prefer larger than 6 inches so I can place industries and have the track meander to break up the straight lines. Running 4 axle diesels and rolling stock less than 60 feet. Minimum radius of 11.25.

I have a 3’x4’ piece of plywood. Thoughts and suggestions on building either size. N scale, DC, solo operation. Branch line of a class 1 railroad. I’m leaning more towards the 3 piece as it would be easier to disassemble if I had to move. But a 1 piece layout also has its merits.

I like the idea of using cork for earth. Will be interesting if it does take color easy.

If you have a bunch of wire bread ties kicking around in the junk drawer of the kitchen…staple them underneath and then twist the wires to them. If they break…grab another and repeat.

With the way prices are going, you and I will be ahead of the game. We purchased what we wanted at a cheaper price. This spreads out our overall cost over time. Imagine starting out now with what you already have. I purchased 3 NOS locomotives for $100. Spend at least double to triple that...

I’m happy with just having 7 locomotives. It’s the rolling stock that I’ve gone a little overboard on lately. But variety always changes things.

I’m sure that when I get to build all of the fine members here will have plenty of ideas and ways to spend me money. Just trying to keep you on your toes Tony 😗😗😗

Don’t forget to tip the wait staff well…😂😂😂

Good one @Smudge617, you definitely could say that and be 100% correct!

Have that too, but it’s a sign of getting older. Also an excuse for not always hearing what my wife says sometimes 🤣🤣🤣

How’s the elevation change? Relatively flat or some grade? I know it doesn’t matter on our steamers but don’t want the boiler to have water issues on a slope.

If you go with the second plan, the spur might work for a scenic overlook and/or picnic area. Possibly use a RDC 1 and a RDC 3 for transportation. Maybe some mountain trails for bikes and hiking.

That’s cool. A river always completes the scene. Helps convey distance in our highly compressed space. Good luck Tony.

@MikeGTW already making headway! I’m sure Tony will love it.

What doesn’t always happen in my house…silence. Relaxing as a matter of fact.

Who gets lost? It’s an adventure to find something new when you take the road less traveled. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have plenty of 4 axle Norfolk Southern black locos. I use less than 60’ rolling stock. My era is roughly 25 years. Can run a caboose if I want to. Colors come from the rolling stock.

Finding out that when I get older I’m forgetting the important stuff and can remember the silly stuff. Lost my sunglasses on my head many times. But I can tell you which shelf the toilet paper was on in a long gone grocery store.
