Morning, damp and 46°F in NJ. Got another loco for xmas. Can't keep the roster low thanks to bro. Mantua 4-6-2, will keep it DC for now, after cleanup and testing.

Steam 🚂 won't go into reverse

Is there a diode hiding in there? Perhaps from a botched up constant lighting attempt? Does it make any noise in the reverse direction? Where are you going to find a 'new' motor for a Mantua Pacific?

Does anyone know how to stop this gear from sliding out?

Glue will most likely not work if the gear was ever oiled.

Turntable and associated stuff wisdom please.

Take the two outermost engine bays of the roundhouse. Draw lines, ceter of track out the front doors. Where the lines cross is the center o the turntable. That sets the distance. If you run out of room, you'll need curved tracks between TT and roundhouse.

    Old vs new 4-6-0

The tender had some glue damage, I am trying to cover the bad spots. The light is getting a tiny LED installed, I thinks it is around 0.5mm.

    Old vs new 4-6-0

Bought a newer Bachmann 4-6-0 to 'replace' my Varney 4-6-0. I was a bit surprised at the size difference. Height and length. I've speed matched the Bachmann (slowed it down) to a MDC old time 2-8-0. The Varney is going to get a can motor, it already has a decoder.

    Bachman HO Steam Locomotives

I think the latest generation is not as detailed. I've been looking for a 4-6-0, and the newest ones have some parts molded onto the boilre as opposed to separate piping and parts.

Do Frogs Really Need to be Powered?

    Mantua steam locomotive parts

I put a can motor in mine. Runs at 46MPH (scale), which is good enough for me. Slow speed is great.
