Was the source for the pine trees bought from China, Amazon?

There is sentimental value as I admire the work of the painter. He was an avid SP steam modeler and one of the best painters I ever knew. He passed away over a dozen years ago and I had contacted his estate about acquiring some locomotives from his collection. Now I just watch eBay for SP...

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I dug out some old flex track and laid out 22r, 24r and 30r for a test. On the left is some sectional 18R I knew would workout but placed for the photo. The 22r & 24r are code 100. The locomotive from a slow start runs without derailing on the 22r...

By any chance does anyone know the minimum radius this locomotive will run on? Last time I ran the locomotive was on a club layout pre DCC in the late 1980s pre-DCC era. It is one of Sunsets budget line of brass locos that were selling for $100-$150 purchased 1987-88 time frame. It does have...

Wasn't there a munitions ship explosion that leveled the town in the early 1900s?
Beautiful Modeling.

The effect of the pooled paint on the bottom angle iron is a nice touch. Catches the feel of overspilled cement gathering especially of the ATSF car.

Those modified pine trees look good. I am reforesting a logged out area on friends layout and will try the paint and static grass approach.

40 years ago when I started with N scale Micro Trains were the best. I switched to HO 30 years ago so cannot comment on (if any) new rolling stock out there.

What area are you modeling? If the flat lands I would say table top and foam. If your area hilly of mountainous I would use open grid and carves foam between the gaps.

Try this. Get a file card, they are stiffer than a wire brush. You can also heat the file in an oven set above 450 degrees then use a wire brush. different metals have different melting points so will expand and contract at different rates. Another option would be to heat the file in the...

"Building walls could be printed etc. However the big hangup for most people would be 3D design.'
Was at a recent local NMRA show and tell. There were two buildings on display. The owner relayed how the walls were 3D printed and then adhered to a plexiglass box. The plexiglass served two...

So SoundBarrier 440 is the product commonly called homasote and used on model railroads that is being discussed? I used "homasote" 30 years ago with my last permanent layout and it just looked like wadded up newspaper pressed into a 4x8 sheet..

Some Random Thoughts:
I like watching the video.
When casting rocks in the rubber molds or in wadded up aluminum foil add grey latex house paint to the mixture, That way if the rock gets chipped or you drill a hole for a tree trunk there is color, not a bright white spot.
In the video it was...

Felt sounds like it would be worth a try. Maybe visit a construction site and pick up a few scrap pieces and assemble a small oval.

I pulled out MRs Bridges and Trestles by Jeff Wilson and could not find the span spacing. Strange? Maybe I just missed it. The link provided by NWP Dave has a drawing indicating 12 feet.

Monoprice 3D printer. My previous printer needs a $100USD part to get working again but a replacement printer is $209USD.

The on/off switch for my woodland scenic vacuum cleaner is not working. Tested it with a DVOM and there is no continuity. The vacuum motor runs when using jumper wires direct. Since there are not any Radio Shack stores nor are there any electronic supply houses nearby I need the proper name...

I have duct taped on the bottom of the ties sticky side up. With the sticky side up the ballast adheres to the gap between the ties. Even now when building layouts still use this method under turnouts to keep the points freed.

My grandchildren are on spring break. Yesterday the 4th grader and I went to Sacramento CA to see the historic Sutter's Fort as she is studying California History. We took the opportunity to visit the CA RR Museum and look at the exhibits there spending time with a docent and the...
