    Module Construction diorama

During a module group show there have been many visitors asking how the modules were assembled, how was the scenery done and how difficult to make one. I assembled this little 14"x20" mockup module using scraps lying about the garage to take to shows. The idea to show the scenery transition...

    Engine and cars?

Don't you just hate that? Most of these comments from those few people are spoken arrogantly and not in an instructive way. There is almost a prototype for everything. A few years back the Durango ran behind former White Pass diesels due to wildfire concerns. Sorry for the hijack. Back to...

    Rapido GE 44T Photos

Prototype photo unknown (to me) photographer. Still photos on friends California Western Railroad. No video but runs really well, keep alive feature will have you over running turnouts. Prime movers sound great, lights function, bell sounds good but the horn sounds tinny like a mid-70s Opel...

How Many Different Locomotives Road Names do you Have on Your Layout?

Somehow got the decals, then saw that when part of Weyerhaeuser Corp there was a GP-9 numbered 311. That was the number of my Coast Guard unit. So, detailed and painted two BB GP9s and used the decals for 311 & 312 knowing it was not the correct livery. I recently pulled out all my old but...

    Pre-order Locomotives....oops I missed the deadline

I missed the deadline to pre-order a Rapido GE 44T. I am unfamiliar with the whole pre-order business model but understand manufacturers don't want to get stuck with unpopular inventory. My question is do manufacturers produce only the models ordered or does the production run have a...

Which company produces that Greyhound scenic cruiser in the background? My dad was a Greyhound mechanic for 40 years and he told me that was his favorite bus to work on. We would travel by Greyhounds every other year from LA to Springfield, MO to visit family. Always enjoyed those coaches.

The 60/40 Layout And Other Railway Related Things

I was fortunate to be there opening day 40 some years ago. The opening movie was well done. We went earlier this spring with our grandson and turned the corner and I exclaimed "That's the San Juan Central" it was really nice to see it displayed. My daughter asked how I could tell without...

    Lenz vs Digitrax

Not sure the nomenclature. What he still had when I contacted him again was a DCS100 Command Station, DB150 Aux Booster, (2) DT402 throttles.

    Real Dirt for Scenery Question

Sometimes I will microwave on high for 2 minutes, but most time from the ground through the sieve and onto the layout. NWP Dave gave me some great advice last week for using a potting soil, tried it and it gave great results for a redwood forest.

    Lenz vs Digitrax

Well, I contacted the estate seller and the digitrax system was sold. My mother used to tell me "He who hesitates loses out" should follow her advice more. Thanks everyone for your input.

    Lenz vs Digitrax

Have a bit of a dilemma, and I know asking for opinions on the internet will get me plenty of things to think about. I have a complete early on version of Lenz DCC with three throttles, one of the 1st purchased at the LHS 30years ago. It works, but not much support in the USA anymore and two...
