The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Part 3: Here is the final part of this update. The nighttime shots are really amazing to me. The effect is exactly what I wanted from the layout. You can also see that I finished painting the engine shed, I built a small park, and a small station shed. I am planning on building some more...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Part 2: So here is the second bit of the update. Each of the buildings had been hand-painted and each of the windows was hand cut and created. I used transparent plastic plates that I had cut to size and taped with matte clear tape to create the fogged effect. I also put the thumbtacks...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Huge Update: Part 1: Hey all! It's been a minute. I have been away for a bit because I left the layout and went home and then forgot to catch the forum up on the progress. So here is part one of the large layout update. Starting off the new year I decided I really wanted to tackle the one...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Update: Progress hasn't been as fast as I would like even though it is train season. But the progress I have made has done a lot for the look of the layout. Since the wiring, I have only been able to lay the groundwork but that is a lot of waiting and a lot of work. However, it has changed...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

It definitely has been frustrating at times, waiting around for things to dry, soldering not working the way I want, things not turning out the way I envisioned, etc. But overall it has been really fun working on this and sharing it with others. The sharing has probably been the most fun thing...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Thanks, I worked hard to get that done. I had to learn a lot since I have zero experience with electrical work.

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Update: Since I ripped up the road, I painted up the foam back to the base color. Since I ripped the road up I decided it was a good opportunity to make it better than before. While I did that I started finishing the ballast on the rest of the track on the other side of the layout. While...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Update: It's been a minute since I have updated the forum on the layout, however there hasn't been much to update on. But there has been some progress. First to note, I have dug the hole out for the second mountain. You can see it in the top left corner of the full layout picture. And you can...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Update: Long time no see! It's been a minute since I updated the layout. In the meantime, I have been working on an Instagram and a YouTube for the layout so I can share my updates with more people. Both of those can be found through the links in my signature. Anyway, back to the layout...

    Water Modeling: Help Wanted

    Water Modeling: Help Wanted

I have been documenting my adventures in building my layout(Here) and I have gotten to a point where I want to start attempting to model some water on my small layout. Here you can see the section that I want to model and the inspiration for the section. I have about 7 or so bottles of...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Update: As I teased in an earlier post, I started ballasting the layout! The first few pictures document the process. You can also see that I have started scenery work in the corner. I really want to get going on pouring the water for the dike out since I know it is going to take a long while...

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Sneak Peak: Also, I know the ballast is huge for the scale but I am fine with it. It is Dollar Tree kitty litter so I get what I get. I am happy with how it looks so far. The only area that has it is the dike so far but it will be making a bit more of the rounds as I get around to it.

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

Thanks I appreciate it! Sneak peak but I have started to ballast. It is a bit rough since it is my first time but I am learning so hopefully it turns out good.

The College Kid Layout Building Saga - End?

I have plans for the connections soon and the greenery. I just wanted to get a video of the current state of the layout. Still a lot of work to go!
