Snow flurries this morning. Balmy 28 degrees and supposed to be cloudy all day. Not looking forward to the first significant snow accumulation of the year because everyone has forgotten how to drive in it.

Tired of paying 40-$50 for a freight car?

For 17 years on my daily commute to work I drove past a antiques/collectibles store in the adjacent town. Finally decided to check it out. Not a large place but it wasn't dusty and didn't smell musty which is typical of many such establishments. Found the following for $15. Carton...

oh no, another newbie! ; )

"Drilling" through 2" foam is no big deal. I just push screwdrivers through it starting with a 1/8" flat tip, and then progressively using larger Phillips head screwdrivers to achieve the desired hole size. This method minimizes the screwdriver from pushing out large chucks of foam ahead of it...

MRC Transistorized Control-master V Model Railroad Power Pack Throttle

Thank you for the info on the throttles. I built the one in the Dec.1977 issue of MRR. It was for a an N scale layout on a hollow core door that my son and I worked on. It worked very well. I will construct another throttle for use when working on dc locos. I've been searching for that...

Running Bear's October 2025 Coffee Shop

Like everyone else, I've gone through most of the various track cleaning methods for my HO layout. Erasers, wine corks, dust monkeys, masonite blocks, and other ideas which I can't remember. I keep coming back to mineral spirits on a old tee sheet wrapped around my index finger. It worked fine...

Not to worry. The sanding sticks will show up once you stop looking for them or buy replacements.

Need advice for a plug I can use for wiring in a LED.

I use header connectors which have the pins on .100" centers. They are commonly used on Arduino boards and other printed circuit board electronics. They come in male, female, right angle configurations. Just cut off a section with 2 pins and-voila- a small inexpensive connector. I usually get...
