    Zephyr DSC50 problem...help!

After further evaluation I don't think its with the Zephyr. I took a section of track and separated from the layout and it worked fine. For some reason when its all together it trips the Zephyr and stops the train. I didn't do anything to the layout prior to wiring the turnouts so i'm not...

    Zephyr DSC50 problem...help!

I started wiring my turnouts tonight when after wiring the first one I ran into a problem. I'm wiring my turnouts to a switchboard. After wiring the first one I wanted to test it so like an idiot I hooked the power to the switch into my jump 1 & jump 2 on the Zephyr thinking it would give me...

Well unfortunately due to space limitations I was forced to remove about 3ft of the layout. I put in red what was taken out. My issue is not re-routing the track. I have a bunch of flex track that i'm not sure what to do with. I've never worked with it but its my understanding you can cut...

I'm up and running with the exception of the balloon loop. I'm going to re-route it so the +/- don't becoming an issue and I don't have to worry about cutting power to parts of the track. Should save me headaches in the long run. My next issue is the 8x12 layout is huge in my basement...

Zephyr DCS50 and non-DCC loco & acceleration question with DCC

I just got the DCS50 system and hooked it up tonight. First of all when I goto run one of my older non-DCC loco's it won't run. There is power to it and it will move if I give it a push but it acts like it has no power. It will also not continue to run the entire loop around the track. When...

    New DCC locomotive grinding sound

I was able to get it apart and check the insides. The part where the drive shaft connects was out of place. I just pushed it back in and it was good to go. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, if it does I'll return it.

    New DCC locomotive grinding sound

First of all i'm brand new to DCC and i'm just getting back into the model railroading hobby. I bought 2 DCC loco's this week and got them today. The one in question is a Bachmann HO 60701 GP35 w/ DCC, Conrail #2273 which I bought from trainlines.com...

I was able to cut the two 4x8's in two and now have them in my basement. I have to join them back together into 2 4x8's and then join the two 4x8's to make the 8x12. I should have it setup by tonight then the fun part starts. Wiring!

I'm going to cut the sections right down the middle. To compensate for the 1/8th i'm going to lose I'll staple a piece of cardboard in between the two 4x4 sections so the track will line up, then i'll just plaster over it when I get everything setup and hooked up. The tunnel on the left is...

    New to the forums

After further review I'm thinking cutting both sections into a 4x4 section might be better. After looking it over some more I'm going to have to remove all of the mountain area's. Everything in red would have to be cut off the layout and removed before I would be able to get the sections into...

**UPDATE** Well I got the layout back to my place today and what do you know, I can't get it to fit in my basement. Right now i'm still looking at some options but pretty much my problem is with the mountain part. The turn into my basement is pretty narrow and thats causing the problems is...

Thanks, most of my rolling stock is pretty rough so the plan is to replace it after some time. But there are few that I do want to keep as they have sentimental value. That Athearn car was part of a set I got at Toys R Us when I was a kid, most of the other stuff my cousin gave me one year...

Would it be possible for me just to replace the coupler from the 2nd car in line that hooks into the locomotive and then keep the rest the old horn hooks? This would be a temporary solution until I was able to replace my rolling stock with the newer couplers.

Well it seems I have about 5 different couplers. Here are some pics of all the different ones I have. Most of the rolling stock didn't have a brand on it, the ones that did were life-like.

***UPDATE*** I just got home not to long ago with 4 boxes of goodies. Track, few buildings, locomotives and rolling stock, and some odds and ends. Everything is dusty and needs a good cleaning but that was to be expected, I was a little disappointed with the amount of rolling stock. I...
