    Led wiring setup

I lived in Newmarket for many years, was a captain on the fire dept till 2007. My train control is going to be DCC, just not the turnout control, yet. what was tour de chooch? I just got back into the hobby after 15 years!

    Led wiring setup

Can't have too many electronics links :D I'm going to be using the DPDT/pushbutton method on that page for my turnouts, I thought about using DCC but I'd have no way of knowing which way the turnouts were thrown without installing trackside signals. I may switch to DCC later down the road if I...

    Led wiring setup

This link hasn't been updated for 8 years but has some good info, I think it's the same thing Dub was saying but you might be able to grasp it a bit easier. http://www.awrr.com/indicator.html

Track nails into hollow core door ?

Exciting stuff isn't it? I have my hollow core door ready to go, installed a set of folding table legs on it, first order of Kato unitrack should be here tomorrow. Last thing before starting to lay track is getting a piece of extruded foam for the base. Can't wait to get started!

What State do you live in?

I live in south east NH. First apartment was right next to Amtrak's station, thought that would be cool, turns out not so much when Pan Am comes through at 2am blasting it's horn for the grade crossing, moved a mile down the road after a year.

    New to DCC

Not that much has changed, all of the models at the link I posted are the same ones that are compared at the link you posted, but I like yours better, much better comparison of features that's easier to read.

    New to DCC

welcome back! I'm just getting ready to do my first complete layout in N gauge, have done alot of research on DCC so I think I can answer your basic questions. What system is the easiest but offeres alot of function. You'll get alot of opinions on this and there's alot to consider. I have...

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

LOL, yeah, that seems to be the consensus on MRC decoders.

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

So in doing some research on a decoder with sound for this model it seems the only one available is from MRC, and from what I've read about those they're not recommended, anyone use them?

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

LOL, yeah. Baby steps, buying as the budget allows. Next will be a couple of Kato track bundles, then the DCC I think. Cheapest parts gonna be the hollow core door I think!

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

Do you know who sells them, Atlas' website layout is horrible for finding anything, I looked at a couple online vendors (modem train stuff for one) I've found HO and Z but no N. [edit] Well after hunting around walthers and such I ended up buying 2 Atlas DCC ready Guilford Rail GE U23B's (#'s...

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

I have no big plans on what to model, I would prefer my area but I haven't seen any Guilford Rail or PanAM loco's in N scale! I think I'm gonna basically do a freelance around the transition era so I can run both diesel and steam (I prefer steam passenger to diesel). I don't really want...

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

I believe your right, been doing some research and the starter kits aren't bad at all, around $150 for an MRC or Digitrax, so I think I'll just go straight to it, which will prevent me from having to worry about complete block wiring and such as well.

    Wow, that was amazing!

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

I was at NMRA and never noticed the beginners guide! Also that search for hollow core door layouts hit the jackpot, found a site http://www.cke1st.com/m_train2.htm with many downloadable plans (in atlas RTS format), I think that might be the way to go for my first layout, along with DC as I...

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

Thanks for the responses guys! The room is quite large and completely finished, but I don't want to take up too much room as it doubles as a storage area and guest sleeping area, I figured with N I could get the most amount of scale track in a given space. My HO setup was just track on a sheet...

Thinking about getting serious W/ model RR

Hey guys, been lurking for a bit, reading posts, getting a look at what's new in the hobby, DCC looks cool but expensive! Anywho, I've never built a layout, and just dabled a little with HO. I think I want to get back into the hobby, but due to space limitations will likely have to go N. What...
