    Doughnut shaped layout?

Thanks for the feedback guys. The third plan is appealing, what holds me back is that it's a lot harder to built sectionally as the other plans, and I wonder about how tight that entryway would be. But it does eliminate the duckunder. I feel like I'm not finding all the possible scenarios for...

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Here's a few shots at a track plan, these are by no means meant to be complete, more just basic ideas. I really do think I want to go the sectional route a la the HOG. These are all 22" min radius. Will welcome any feedback at all.

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Joe, I've been keeping an eye on your layout, looks like you're making nice progress. Do you have a track plan sketched out? I don't have quite as much room as you but need all the inspiration I can get!

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Rico, I will try my best to recall that layout you've got embedded in your brain! Crandall, Thanks for the additional info. I'm a little concerned about a duckunder, while I intend to build the layout fairly high I am 6' 2" and, as I trudge into middle age, do have the occasional sore back!

Jim, Thanks, that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for, appreciate it.

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Looks great Crandell, I've seen many shots of your layout but never the overview. What are the rough dimensions of your layout? Thanks.

    Doughnut shaped layout?

Thanks for the responses! I can't recall a hexagonal shaped N scale layout in any of the magazines, will have to search around some... That Dixie Central sure is a new and unique concept, I'll be watching the construction of that one for sure, as well as joining the Yahoo Group. Trey, any...

    Doughnut shaped layout?

I'm about to start on a new layout, and have spent the last couple of months trying to come up with a plan. Previous layouts were mostly table top or island designs. I have a spare room to work with, about 9.5 x 14 ft, just have to leave room for a desk and chair. I'm not asking for track...

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Again thanks for the responses! I have no problem at all with airbrush weathering, it's just been with washes. My flat finish of choice is usually Model Master Acrylic, although sometimes I'll use Pollyscale Flat. I've always waited at least a day or two to start the weathering process. I...

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

What were you using to thin the paint? Thanks for the reply!

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Thanks Jim, I'll have to see if I can find them locally.

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Ryan, I've been curious about the Future Floor Polish, having read about it in numerous places...sounds like enough reason to try one more experiment. Thanks!

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Thanks for the responses! Yes, I have been very tempted to go back to good old Floquil, Scalecoat, etc. I agree that sometimes it is best to just paint the entire grille, radiator, etc the desired color and be done with it. But there are some cases where the body color really does stand out...

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Sorry to dredge up an old topic... But I'm still having issues. I've been trying to stick with Pollyscale for everything, so for now I've shelved the idea of using solvent based paints for grille washes. But everything I've tried still results in a whitening effect when the wash dries. The...

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Jim, Thanks for the response. I did one experiment today, I dullcoated a test shell that was painted with Pollyscale about 10 days ago. So far it looks good, no sign of any weird reaction.

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Thanks for the responses! Since I have a couple of spare body shells on hand I'll do some experimenting. How long would you wait after painting a shell with water based paints to apply dullcote (Testors)? Josh, I am familiar with the effects of alcohol on dullcote, learned that lesson...

    Solvent based washes over Acrylics?

Hey all! Another question on my journey to custom painting nirvana.. I've switched over to water based paints, Pollyscale for the most part. I had some initial issues (see recent thread about surface prep) but am past that and have come across my next obstacle. I like to add depth to...

    Surface Prep Problems

Jim, I don't think the water is really hard here, it only builds up a very little at a time around faucets etc. So maybe I don't have to take it to that extreme. Good point about the seals, the Badger I use has one internally that I gather isn't easily replaced. Bob, Is that like...

    Surface Prep Problems

Just had another thought...I use a water/ammonia mixture to clean the airbrush after use. And I usually rinse all the parts under running tap water. Which means minerals and "stuff" might be building up inside the airbrush as it dries. I sure can't see buying gallon jugs of distilled water for...

Going to use airbrush for first time

I've gotten pretty comfortable with Pollyscale. I've used both distilled water and Testors Universal Acryl thinner with good results, usually in about a 60/40 to 70/30 ratio. 15-20 PSI. As others have mentioned the water based paints can dry up on the tip quickly. If you're going to stop in the...
