Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

I'm not sure , I made it a high hood since I like high hoods so perhaps Norfolk & Western or Southern or even any road name since it doesn't need to be real. Not many rail roads exist any longer as least not from what I recall seeing as youth living in Chicago and near Chicago where I would see...

I am really having a though time with hand rails

For some reason even though I've made hand rails before and I had handrails I could copy from. On this RPP Gp-35 shell they are so different , plus I had a Blue box GP-38-2 I sold others I had and sold the hand rails with them. I did find that the Athearn BB SD40-2 has the proper end handrails...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

I finished securing the frame to the shell on the GP-35 Athearn modified frame and RPP GP-35 that I converted into a high hood with Cannon & Co high hood ends. I used Kadee #5 couplers and trimmed them to the spring. Here a few photo's . I added .030" sheet styrene to the inside of the...

    Dual action air brushes ?

Cost me around $23 for the HD complete head and HD 200 needle from Amazon. I saw their new 200NH which has the different head think it has one needle like the 155 which is nice because one head tip and needle does it all.

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

Is that one of the newer Blue box models that comes with the couple mount and hex drive? Or did you fill in the pilot of an older model? That's similar to how I did my older BB SD40-2 only I didn't trim away the gear box on the #5 coupler. I got most of the GP-35 Athearn modified frame to...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

Today just to keep going after the Athearn SD40-2, I decided the solution for the GP-35 frame and RPP shell was to add .030" x1/4" wide styrene to the bottom inside of the walkways where the frame sits. I added one just behind the pilots and three more one each side right under the walkways...

    Dual action air brushes ?

Last week I ordered the heavy head for an old Badger 150 since in one day Amazon sold the last one they did have the heavy 200 needle and when it arrived it was in a box yet the needle was bent midway between the tip an end so I got it straight told amazon and sent another free. So the head and...

Got one Athearn SD40-2 part way done.

Yes but I need a gear box or else I can't get the unit to hold the frame to the shell. The SD40-2 is fine, it's the Rail power GP-35 shell to the Athearn GP-35 frame . The shell has bolsters on the pilot so there is no open bottom where the coupler fits so I don't need to fill that. They made...

Got one Athearn SD40-2 part way done.

I was a lot of work I did it with a razor saw and files even when I shortened the fuel tank. I'm adding 2 more photo's to show the truck clearance and the best I could get of the front pilot since the black plastic seems to shine.

Got one Athearn SD40-2 part way done.

I posted a while back March 2014 about cutting the fuel tank from 19' to 13' for Milwaukee Road. I did the frame maybe 5 years ago yet finally fit it to the shell. I already shortened the hood to 81" and used Details west cast metal coupler pilot pockets and thinned the coupler mounts and...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

Thought it was a model power SW1 but it's a AHM . The shell is not to bad , it is the proper hood width and the details are good enough. It does have a plastic frame and one power truck both trucks have a 9 foot wheel base. The cast on plastic handrails are terrible. I think I could fit a...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

I found a site I used to post on, this is my VO-1000 I made from two Athearn Baldwin shells to get the proper length and hood width. I cut a Concor SW-7 frame into 3 sections and used brass flat stock to hold them together for the proper bolster CTC. Link...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

Thank you Greg. Now all I need to do is locate a pair of power trucks to fit the frame I found three side frames in my junk box. I thought I'd use the old model power shell and build a new walkway it's an NW2 or the Concor SW-7 which has a walk way.

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

If you have any HO loco's BB units mostly the Athearn SW-7 you don't want let me know. I had quite a few yet at the time thought the hood width was incorrect then found out they were not. I have an old NW-2 Model power I think all that is worth using is the shell and a lot of work and a Concor...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

I suppose it has. I've been doing this since the 60's when most model HO trains were simple gear drive replaced rubber band drive. I didn't get back into this until the early 80's and did have quite a few Atlas and Kato and Proto 2000 diesels as well as round house steam. Proto 2000 were the...

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

All I asked was simply if anyone had any ideas on how to mount a RPP GP-35 shell onto a Athearn GP-35 frame. Some RPP shells have frame one could buy not a GP-35 . The shell needs to mount to the frame to stay there , I can't use the frames coupler pads so I need to remover them and build up...

Never mind I'll figure it all out on my own. Did this all before well before PC's came along.

Finishing a Rail power products GP-35 on a modified Athearn GP-35 frame ?

I made the RP shell into a high hood and used Cannon & Co high hood ends because the RPP were not good and used a Athearn cab because RPP cab is not great either. I just cut off the headlamp and rear over hang used a GP-38-2 cab. The main issue is on the Athearn frame the coupler mounts need to...

    Dual action air brushes ?

I've decided since I have a Paasche VL-3 and a Badger 155 and the Vega 2000 all have the same tip and needle size and I have another that Badger made for me year ago on their garage sale it also is dual action and has a needle stop and the same 0.75 needle and tip plus if I need the Paasche VL...
