I read through all your posts. I enjoyed reading them and am impressed with your progress. Keep up the good work.

Let us know how it works out.

The lighting video was interesting.
A caution on the rfid is the range of it. If you have rolling stock on adjacent tracks (2-1/2” away), I would be concerned about picking up a railcar on the adjacent track. You will need to test for that. I am not sure of the range, it may not be an issue.

I can send you my arduino sketch when you are ready for the turnouts. Send me your email address through PM when the time comes. It is too large to post the current version on the forum.
I am not familiar with the turntable drive you are referring too. But I am sure with some trial and error...

If you look back on my posts in this section, you will find that I’m using an Arduino with a servo shield to power my servo driven turnouts. I have had the odd servo go a little wonky. Probably because I bought the cheapest ones from China off Amazon. I have been using them for months and all...

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. See above for the progress I made. I had it running for around 20 minutes quite noisily. Before I run it anymore I will do a good thorough tuneup on it.
Who knows, maybe in the future I may re-power it with a can motor.

Thanks for all the advice. I did a process of elimination tonight. First checking to see if the Decoder was powered right, would the wheels spin.
So I did my checks but started with supplying power to the red and black wires directly from the track with the wheels elevated. The locomotive ran...

I was able to get a new pilot and cab. I also fixed the side linkage with a new rivet.
Does this mean I won’t be able to get the open frame motor to work at all or it won’t work as well as a can? If it’s the former, that would be good to know.
I wonder if anyone knows the current draw on an...

So I installed a Digitrax DH-123D Decoder in my green 4-6-2 locomotive.
Isolating the motor was fairly easy. I pulled out the spring pivot point, cut the brass conductor bracket, and the reinstalled the pivot point for the brush.
I picked up the track power where the red wire is from the...

That’s awesome. Thanks a bunch.

So call me a crazy Canadian, but I bought this kit off Ebay. It is a Tyco 4-8-2.
I bought it for donor parts. I was looking at the other listings for the cab, pilot and valve kits and they would have cost more. Haven’t verified if all the valve linkages are there or not, but it has all new...

Thanks for the link. Are they hard to install?

I like the all black. Can say I love the green colour
There are a lot of little linkages.

Well I think I am done.
I lubed up the locomotive and it ran on a 3 foot piece of flex track back and forth.
I couldn’t resist, I disconnected the AR1, pulled all of the dcc locomotives off the layout, connected up a dc controller. The green monster was running fast around the loop a couple...

I thinking will follow this action plan sometime in the future:
- set up a small piece of dc test track
- see how well it runs if it does
- clean it up
- buy a pilot and cab if I can. STOP and DECIDE HERE.
- decide on dcc, if so replace the motor with a can motor, isolate it and do some...

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work. If it was a pricey loco, it may have been worth it, but from a quick scan, it looks like one in better shape would be worth $60.
It does have some sentimental value, maybe a project for sometime in the future.
It is a Mantua based on some photos I’ve seen...

These are all great comments....put a smile on my face!

So when I was about 10, Santa brought me a bunch of used train stuff for Christmas.
This is one of the locomotives he brought. Its been sitting in a box for over 30 years. Any idea what it is?
It is missing the cow catcher at the front and definitely needs some clean up. It has sentimental...

Lol. Just need him to be gentle on the turnouts.

Looking for some opinions. My 5-year old and I put together our new CN switching locomotive.
Hopefully it’s DCC ready and we can convert it to dcc plus sound soon. Probably a good idea to put a motor in it as well.
Its got awesome pulling power, custom weathering and kadee couplers.
