    Layout for son and dad

Well here is the latest design. I moved the 3rd track out of the tunnel and added a bridge.

Well I tried to get a crossing in the design but could get it right and have larger curves. I redesign things with a 2nd radius inner curves and 3rd radius outer curves. I added the complete reverse loop track, so three tracks go through the mountain. I think it is looking pretty good. I don't...

Avoid using FedEx if importing to Canada

I have had a few things shipped to Canada from the US. UPS has crazy brokerage fees. FedEx brokerage fees are included in the air shipping. Ground I don’t believe it is. I prefer FedEx from my experience. USPS and Canada Post I have had good results as well. I just priced out shipping a small...

I liked the crossing also. Not sure I will be able to fit it with the larger radius curves. I am playing around with both the crossing and bridge concepts in cad. See which one works out if both do I will decide by which will look most interesting.

I thought about that. I need to redraw the layout with the proper radius curves and I will try to incorporate it is space allows.

    Layout for son and dad

I tried moving the switch around the curve to left in a number of spots and couldn’t resolve the issue. While doing so, I noticed the layout was using 18” radius on the outer loop and 15” on the inner. My intention was to use 22” on the outer and 20” on the inner. Back to the cad program to...

    Layout for son and dad

So I have spent some time to revise the layout with Flex track. Just one area I need to work out with a radius that is too small. Highlighted in yellow track. I checked out trying to remove the cross over with a bridge but the grades were over 3.4%. So I redesigned the reverse loop to connect...

I really like the thought of having a bridge there. The track to the left of the x-over by eye balling it would be about 9 feet and with a 3” clearance under the bridge would result in about a 2.8% grade. On the right side it looks like a higher grade. I will need th see what I can do. I think...

I don't think I have the space for the elevation gain to get a bridge in there. It is my intention to use only nickel-silver.

I like the two loops as well. See my other reply.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of the Locomotive shop and some additional RIP tracks. I think I want to keep the double loop in the layout so it will allow my son and I to operate trains at the same time and not interfere with each other. I did think about a siding track at the...

    Layout for son and dad

Yes, that is one of the areas I am not happy about. We have a S-Curve in our yard where I work and it is a source of problems. As I mentioned I am using snap track, an the intent will be to use Flex track on the actual build to smooth out some of these areas, this being one of them. I haven't...

Attached are layout drawings using the proper Turnout types. Not as happy with the layout as the original. It has some weird curves. I am using snap track for the curves. Perhaps with flex track, I can make it look better.

Thanks. I think I will buy a few more Peco turnouts

    Best place to sell?

Any suggestions on how to sell a bunch on new and used track and switches? I have so much brass stuff I won’t be using. Some nickel silver as well. Is Kijijji or Craigslist a good place?

Great to know! Saves me buying two more turnouts.

I have a couple curved Peco medium radius turnouts. Would it be good to incorporate them on the ends of the turnback loop? Are curve turnouts something I should stay away from due to reliability and problems or are they equal to straight turnouts?

By the way, I have about 13 various N gauge Peco insulfrogs turnouts for sale if you are looking for any. I can beat those prices. They are brand new in the boxes. The ad is listed in the buy and sell forum.

Thanks for the tip. I will certainly check them out. Actually a friend is visiting me from London in July. Maybe I will se if he wants to bring some contraband with him if it makes a big difference.

I am going to see exactly how many additional turnouts I need on the weekend. I will bite the bullet and buy more Peco’s. I do have a number of Peco’s with insulfrogs so I will stick with them.
