ken 23434,
Thanks for your generous offer for tech specs for my SW1500; however, I have the original copy that came with this locomotive.
This is a neat locomotive. I am going to keep her. She still runs great!
BTW, would our locomotives be Athearn blue box, or are they another model...

But I want locomotive noises!!!
I am intrigued by the sounds of my new Blueline ATSF 4-8-4. Now I want sound from my two Genesis F-7 locomotives. How difficult will it be to achieve it? Are DCC sound decoders difficult to install? Will I have to buy Athearn decoders or will those of other...

Trent,
All the beer you can drink, but you'll have to come to sunny So Cal to collect. Then we can try to get a tour of the BNSF yard in San Bernardino, providing I can drag you away from the thong bikinis on South Orange County beaches. Hell, who wants to look at trains anyway??? Tracks are...

I received my new Blueline ATSF 4-8-4 3751 this evening. It's a big, hefty locomotive. I inspected her, applied a little oil on her driving mechanism, put her on the tracks, increased voltage, and to my delight she runs wonderfully. I have not experienced a single problem with her, unlike my...

Trent,
I think DCC, like life's other fine things, has to be experienced to be appreciated. After hearing my new BLI 4-8-4, my interest in bells and whistles has been piqued. I have a hunch you're right, that within a near you'll read my posts here expressing my elation of you model railroad...

I received my BLI ATSF 4-8-4 3751 today. There is a tremendous quality difference between Spectrum and BLI. I inspected my BLI locomotive, applied a little oil, connected the tender's wires to the pilot, put her on the tracks, and increased voltage. So far I have experienced not a single...

I just checked Athearn's Website. It's definitely an SW 1500; however, there's no info about it. Incredibly it's still offered. I am assuming it's a freight locomotive.
Happy railroading,
Tom

About ten years ago I bought my then six-year-old son an Athearn starter set. It came with what I believe to be a switcher locomotive. It's a BNSF with a rear-mounter cab. After all that time it still runs great. In fact, it might just be the fastest locomotive we own. Does anyone know anything...

Imackattack,
I am found model railroading to be an EXPENSIVE hobby. I think I have sunk about a grand into this hobby in less than a month...and I have more to go!!! I've spent over three hundred simoleons on 2 Genesis F-7 locomotives and about another four hundred on rolling stock in the same...

Well I tried to get my Spectrum 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain to run, but its driving mechanisms continues to bind. Finally they refused to turn the drivers. I am sending it back to Bachmann. And no matter what I do with my other Spectrum 4-8-2, its tender continues to derail.
I keep looking at my...

CSX road slug & UP2CSX,
Thanks for your informative responses. It does make a lot of sense that biological concerns of livestock limit their movement.
I grew up in Orange County, yet as a kid we routinely ventured out to Hesperia, and an area off the 138, to ride motorcycles. God only knows...

I did leave about a hundred eighty bucks at my hobby shop dealer this afternoon. I picked up a couple ATSF tanker cars, another UTLX 30k tanker car, a "beer can" tanker car, and 3 ATSF piggyback cars. I looked at the Atlas BNSF diesel that was on sale for seventy bucks. It just did not appeal to...

When I reflect upon my favorite movies, "Red River" is not just one of my favorite westerns, it's one of my favorite movies, period! It's a western adaptation of "Mutiny on the Bounty". I have used this movie to teach ethics because it profoundly contrasts one's ethical responsibility to...

Thanks, railroaders, for your most informative replies. I do not have room for a large layout, so I will be unable to have large consists. In fact, I had 15 cars behind my F-7, and it was about maximum for my layout space.
I am in process of modifying my layout. In fact, I'll be buying lumber...

UP2CSX,
Thanks for the info. I do like the warbonnet scheme of BNSF. I might just buy that Atlas model tomorrow. I am not sure if my hobby shop dealer carries the Gold line. But all-in-all, he has pretty good stuff...especially for being in San Bernardino! If he does have the Gold line, I will...

hamltnblue and Imackattack,
Thanks so much for your extremely informative help. I do not plan on going DCC, since I do not have enough room. At most I might be able to run three trains simultaneously, but the reality is I might find it cumbersome to run more than two.
I did buy a Blueline...

Sorry about all the questions, but I might be spending money tomorrow. Can anyone please explain the difference between BLI, Blueline, and Paragon2 locomotives for me? I am seeking information in terms of quality.
Thanks so much,

My hobby shop dealer has an Atlas Silver BSNF diesel on sale for 69.99. It was marked down nearly 50%. If I remember correctly, It had steps in front leading to the cab. I can't remember the model though. I already had my mind made up on a Genesis SF F-7 A/B he let me have for $170. I'm going...

My hobby shop dealer sells Atlas locomotives. How are they? I have been extremely pleased with Athearn Genesis. Should I consider Atlas?
I live not too far from the Cajon Pass where BNSF is common. I am considering a decent diesel locomotive beading this road name. I am considering an Atlas...

How do HO F-7 locomotives stack up? I like Athearn's Genesis line, partly because both the A and B units are powered. But I have been looking at Intermountain and BLI. They all seem like quality locomotives. Are they all essentially equal in quality?
I just confirmed my order of a Genesis SF...
