Willis,
I clicked your link and all you have to do when you get there is click the 'read this book' button.
Once there look on the right side and you'll see 'PDF' button. Left click it and that'll allow you to download (save) it to your computer.
Crandell,
Is there a scroll bar on the...

Jim,
Thanks, actually I don't know how many hours. But it took 2 months. It would have taken longer but I had made the same caboose in 'O' scale a couple years earlier so I had a lot of construction details worked out when I started this one.

Here's mine.....completely scratchbuilt in 1/29 scale.
These are the cabooses Henry Ford had built for the DT&I when he owned the Railroad.

For you transition era scratchbuilders and/or if you just like car and loco drawings and specs then here's something for you to look at.
Google books scanned in a 1951 book (300 pages I believe).
It's called 'Popular picture and plan book of railroad cars and locomotives'
From the people...

Jim,
You'll definately need a backhoe and bobcat for that pool!
My construction is 2" pvc pipes driven deep into the soil with 2 layers of 3/4" plywood on top. Add in lots of paint and that will be the cost. I didn't keep track of my cost, so I can't give an exact number. The plywood is...

Thanks guys,
Ted,
Yes the wheel treads are too wide and the flanges are too deep.....you must model proto since every scale has differing levels of incorrect treads and flanges, and only the proto people have the lattitude to critizize others indescepancies. ;)
Jim,
The cars costs...

Jim,
Thanks,...first about the railroad....it's just a big irregular shaped oval with a crossover. The main is 320 feet of track with 10' min. radius. Since I've built this I've realized I don't like the great outdoors for my trains...it's a pain to carry everything in and out every time I...

Charles,
No need to imagine.....I took these pics a year and a half ago......this train was 55 feet long.....the Geep handled her nicely. :D
Enjoy,

Ken,
Yes I do have a 1/29 engine to pull it with.....R/C-DCC with onboard battery power and Soundtraxx sound decoder
I'm currently working on a GP38-2 that will get the DT&I Bicentennial paint job
Take care,

OK, I took some pix after I had most of it assembled. Made of styrene and brass. The rivets and grabiron eyelets (NBW) are Tichy Train Group.
I made some scale drawings from the RMC Railgon artical (1980ish) that I worked to. I found some great detail pix online that I used to really help with...

I've been working on a Thrall built Railgon from the first batch built (7/80).
Unlike you HO scale guys, many items added had to be scratch built as I am modeling in 1/29th scale.
This is one of the first projects that I've attempted to get the underbody detail accurate as well.
For...

Thanks Again Guys, especially Jim for noticing what it does take to achieve the extra measure of anal-retentive modeling.

Scratchbuilt Caboose - Showin off BIG - midweek PhotoFun
Hey All,
Thought I'd do a bit of SHOWIN OFF here. :D
I started this project during the Christmas holiday. I say it's totally finished with the exception of replacing the trucks with caboose trucks once USA Trains releases them...

Margaret and I went up to Owosso, MI this past Sunday and took a caboose ride behind Flagg Coal No 75. Since I model the DT&I it was a bonus to ride in one of the Ann Arbor cabooses (DT&I took 6 of these for themselves while they owned the AA). We were in the caboose right behind the 75, it was...

Here's 55 feet of freight on my layout (backyard). Pulled by a single GP7 (USA Trains 'G' scale). This is one heavy train. Took the picture last night.

Jim,
The engine itself was just $175.00 (an overstock N&W model). I had the Soundtraxx DSX decoder from a previous scale - $60.00. The Airwire decoder/reciever was $144.00. I made my own battery pack - approx $75.00.
So that's about $404.00 - plus scratchbuilding the details, painting...
