Welcome! I'm fairly new here too, but seems like 99.9% of the people here are pretty helpful and nice

    UP ac4400 build.

love the red stripes. they actually look like they reflect the light a little like the real thing. i've got a couple UP engines and the dull red stripes drive me crazy. where did you get the decals?

    Norfolk Southern ? again

reminds me of looking for cars on ebay... i guess technically you could call accumulated dust on the item as "custom weathering". that's why you gotta ask the seller, get a better description and photos, and don't be afraid to back off. always remember, buyer beware!

    Idea for a layout

wow, that's just so cool! did they finally stop running steam in china and mogolia yet?

    What is this equipment?

first time i saw one at night, scared the crap outta me. came around a curve, expected those little cranes and stuff, and something is throwing sparks like crazy! there's another one that i always wanted to model, uses i think an old F40 for power. pretty impressive machinery

Reporting Marks with X at the end

reporting marks with an "X" on the end are private owners, UTLX= Union Tank Car Leasing, LLPX is Something Something Locomotive Leasing, HELX is Helm Leasing, etc... although i have seen cars used for MOW with "X" at the beginning too

parts that come with athearn RTR locomotives

my older genesis SD50 doesn't have the cut levers and hoses, but my newer SD60 has all that. LOVE that motor! i've got an older ready to run GP40 like that, with what looks like a newer tooling body on the old athearn frame with no plow or anything. but it did come with brake cylinders and...

Bad place to jump the tracks during rush hour

typical Rail Link! think they said 8 locomotives rolled out of can st yard, where they build the Z trains. looks like they derailed right on the lumber st lift bridge. absolutely beautiful. units probably didn't have 100% of their hand brakes applied, and if i remember right there is a derail on...

caterpillar load for an intermountain flat car

most heavy equipment has a tie down location. i know i've seen HO scale turnbuckle tie down kits, but can't find one at the moment. failing that, or if you want to keep it low cost, some black thin thread can do for a tie down chain in a pinch. never seen construction equipment on a flat car up...

Teen hit and killed by train in florida!

at what point did this kid's mom say "don't walk along the tracks, you will get jumped OR hit by one of those big fast moving metal things? besides being tied to the rails by some mustachioed villain in a top hat, there aren't too many excuses for being hit by a train unless you are absolutely...

    Soo

last time i was through bensenville i spotted a couple old Soo geeps and the caboose. they usually use the old soo geep (no idea what it is) along with a soo caboose for the local out here too.

    addition to the "family"

that menards that closed, wouldn't happen to be the one in hanover park would it? got a couple of good deals when that one moved. and as for cats, i made the mistake of setting up some of that cheap bachman snap together with the plastic roadbed around the christmas tree, and ran my brand new...

    Anyone else collect British/Hornby?

if i remember right, british OO runs on standard 1/87 track but the real equipment runs on a slightly wider gauge. the OO equipment is slightly larger. i believe it's 1/75 or 1/76 scale

    Anyone else collect British/Hornby?

i lovr british equipment, and OO looks like a good compromise between HO and S. if it wasn't so expensive and difficult to model british OO in the states i'd love to build something in that scale. those locomotives are just beautiful and elegant. at least the seller is taking care of you

    Athearn BB no more?

i figured something was up, the hobby shop i usually go to only had a few blue boxes. a bunch of the POS cabooses and a bunch of old 40' cars. picking up a bunch of blue box kits and putting them together was always a nice simple stress reliever

    What color would you suggest?

almost like the old MoPac colour, maybe a little lighter. reminds me of Ford Engine Blue, too
