Mail Call! Railway Post Office, commonly abbreviated as RPO has rolled in!

I have a few more pieces I'd like to get, but not a lot. I'm not an O-gauge or Lionel guy, I got these purely because they say Milwaukee Road on them. I know two guys who are building O-gauge home layouts, though, so I hope to bring my train there sometime.

Hard for me to not absolutely rave about this. Do you guys know the researcher/author John Luecke? He's written and co-written a bunch of books about railroads in Minnesota. The guy just recently completed a project of indexing 4,300 railroad maps from all over Minnesota. So for $35 I got a huge...

Bourbon, Wargaming and model trains all in the same post. Nice class. I miss my Warhammer days sometimes. Sorry if I laugh. All the southerners are getting snow and ice and here Minnesota is just super, super cold. No precip for us due to the frigid temps. At 10am my phone said our ambient temp...

Time for me to show off!

I've learned that it was very common for Milwaukee trains to have pusher helpers in a few spots around the Twin Cities. So now for me, this means some ops trains I run at North Metro will end up with a little extra power on the severe grades, one being this analogue for Short Line Hill.

Hey fellas, I'm on a major detailing binge lately. So my U33C should have all these speed recorder kind of thingits, but I can't find any available in HO scale. Is there a certain name or term for these things I'm not hitting?

Superbowl & sportsball aren't my thing. Today is diesel shop day. Installing details on a few of my locos.

NP #328 eh? Nice. I wish I had seen the real deal when she was still scooting around, but I never knew it existed until a few years ago.

Time for me to show off!

I've been working on my BN stuff, making tweaks and changes. Here's three of my five power sets. I still have two more sets to solidify until I'm done with BN.

Some guy on Facebook was selling two GN SD45's at $70/each with DCC installed! A fellow clubber and myself each bought one. He gets the Big Sky #418, I get the 'Simplified' #417.

I need to get on the ScaleSoundSystems boat! I have sound-equipped locos which I would like to improve on. My stock Athearn Genesis has ESU Loksound and good effects, but the stock speaker really sucks.

For clarification, your store has Roundhouse ones as in blue box, or do you mean Athearn/Genesis?

Found a guy selling his dad's estate. The kicker? Display case full of Milwaukee Road! Here's what I picked out. Nicely done custom paint, custom decal of MILW 2150, the 100,000th PS-1 boxcar built by Pullman Standard. This earned the car special gold paint. Mine is a little off, but we'll call...

Couplers installed on new Scale Trains, Athearn, etc.

ScaleTrains wants to reinvent the wheel and have their own proprietary couplers. They're only OK. They can be made to work...sometimes. My UP excursion water tender didn't like staying coupled to my AFT4449 and train, so I ended up switching it to Kadee. Also, ScaleTrains' coupler pockets...

Running Bear's February 2021 Coffee Shop.

Well after the excitement of this weekend, I'm back with a humble purchase. An estate my club took in contained four custom-painted/decaled Northern Pacific F7's. These have been detailed, as well as having been given drawbars between the A's and B's. Lo and behold, this A unit has Tsunami...

    Username change

Lol, TBT I used to do that too. This was my screenname on a couple Battlefield games. You can bet people found ways to have fun with it. Can never be too careful! 😆

The main spokesman, Shane, said the MTH stuff will have ESU loksound as the factory install, instead of MTH's stupid DCS stuff. That's the biggest hangup for MTH HO models. I'd trade my Little Joe for one with ESU with zero hesitation. Depending on how picky you are about realism, MILW's...

To put it accurately, ScaleTrains now has all the stuff to produce 18 different HO scale steam locomotives. Then tack on the MILW Bi-Polars, Little Joes, and all the diesels and cars..

    Username change

Hello, I've had this account for about 12 years at this point. At the time of its creation, my username was a quick throwaway one I had been using on video games. I'd like to change it to something a little more relevant to my interests in this decade. How can I do that?

Holy smokes, guys. Not only is ScaleTrains killing my wallet with SDL39's in HO scale, but they have also bought up the MTH HO and S scale lineups. I'm over here about to die over my excitement. A ScaleTrains MTH HO Little Joe with ESU instead of ProtoSound? HELL YES PLEASE!

Running Bear's January 2021 Coffee Shop

Maybe, but an SDL39 isn't a rebuild or homebrew oddity, it's a very unique little EMD 6-axle pretending to be a 4-axle, and we Milwaukee, Soo and Wisconsin Central modelers have been dying to have one that ISNT brass for decades. I can't tell you how excited I was when they said the name, SDL39...
