    WC project

CNR Glen, It did have a lot of rust and corrosion so we can safely say, Hey it spent time in a wet environment. The last few years has been pretty wet in Iowa and it's safe to say that I bet these came from a flooded basement. The others seem to be a better shape rust wise.

    WC project

After a good cleaning. This thing holds a steady line. No derailments and just chugs along at a nice speed. There are still rust spots here and there but all the contact points are shinny and i have great contact points now. Next up is to find kadee coupler's and fix the left front step and...

    BNSf Project

Finally found something concrete for the Tyco SF 1102 Loco. Tyco lists it as a Super 630. I can only find pictures of model trains in 4 color schemes. So far I have not run across any real life photo's of this particular Loco. Could this just be a promotion from Tyco based after no real Loco...

    WC project

Hi all, Ok, Following my BNSF project thread. Which seems to not be going as planned. I have taken the BN 6615 (F45) out of that project and will put it into my WC project. at 1st glance. this has a lot of clean up work that needs to be done. It does run but not very well if you can...

    BNSf Project

With the info provided so far. BN 853 is close to a C-424 but the rear hood , number board and lights are wrong for a C-424. BN 6615 is an F45 and I'' revert this one to my WC line. this one has hope of "maybe" running! ( Needs front and rear hand rails and the left front steps are gone.)

    BNSf Project

Hi all, I came across a few wrecked models from an auction a few years back and have decided to do something with them. I want to turn these into BNSF loco's but my problem is I have trouble identifying makes and models. ( if it isn't in a package I can't guess the correct ones lol) SF 1102...

    looking for Software

Thanks guys, I had a look at JMRI last night. looks like it will fit the bill exactly like I am looking for. I didn't input much yet other than to try it out but so far so good. The DCC part will more than likely go unused as I'm more of a put it on the track and go guy... ( never invested in DCC)

    55 Gallon Drums

I used to cast a lot with resin. Here is what I did to cut down the air bubbles. 1. use none scented baby powder to coat the mold. lightly blow or tap the excess out. You will just want a coating to help the resin flow. 2. Pre heat the mold in a micro wave. This also helps the resin flow and...

    looking for Software

Hi all, Been out of the loop for a few months. ( model railroading kinda comes around late winter and spring for me) Anyway, I thought there was a section on the available software for running your trains and loads but I don't see it listed here. What I'm looking for is a program that...

    Keeping track clean?

Just a thought as I have a lot of older track myself. But check for corrosion around the joins. Any dirt/grim there may be enough to lose contact as the engine rolls over. Also make sure there is a tight fit at your joins.

    "Mission (I hope not) Impossible!!"

Make drop in bench work to span your gaps. I made one ( no pics yet) to span from my main layout into my work shop. I used 3 Warren truss bridge kits and 2 3 " straight to complete the span. I found a great vid ( On youetube but forgot the user name) that explains how to wire it up with a...

    Rock Island layout

I initially went with Rock Island and Milwaukee Road but decided to use Iowa interstate and Wisconsin Central. WC mostly becuase I bought 2 SD45's and they had a lot of them. When I expand my freight cars I'll inter mix several other railroads.

    Rock Island layout

Thanks Gary B, I forgot a few explinations. 1. Coal mine site was moved to the 3x8 side. There was no room for it where I initially had it on the 4x8. 2. Where you see the blue logging flats, That siding will be the route to the (if you read my expantion thread) work shop area and a...
