    tooter goes big time...

Hmm weekend, That just might be the last "toot" we hear out of Tooter. There had to be some sort of rope/pulley system to help cars down that hill...otherwise they never would have negotiated the curve at the bottom. -Art

    Cheap Sound

You are correct, the MRC #1867 is sound only...no dcc controller chip in there. -Art

    Cheap Sound

Nope, even the "cheap" dcc/sound decoders have dual mode. Here is an inexpensive example Digitrax SDH164D it costs $39.99 at model train stuff. http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Digitrax-HO-SDH164D-Wired-Mobile-Sound-Decoder-p/dig-sdh164d.htm Here is the PDF instruction manual...

    ROCO Track Cleaner repaint

I'm pretty sure I know why people don't paint them. If you use aggressive cleaning agents like lacquer thinner in there, just a few drops on the paint will dissolve it. I you use less aggressive cleaners (like Everclear), then the paint will not be damaged. I think that painting it black with...

    ROCO Track Cleaner repaint

This is my idea of a track cleaner with custom graphics. A CMX clean machine with an Everclear grain alcohol decal....hick. Any thoughts...suggestions? BTW, CNR Glen...that looks great! /) /) -Art

    Cheap Sound

The vast majority of modern DCC/sound decoders are dual mode. They will run fine on DC only system and your friend will get the sound he desires with your install help. Plus if he ever expands to DCC he will be all set there as well. For a little less money you can get DC sound only units but...

    Best HO metal wheel sets?

I bought a set of Proto wheelsets about a month ago. A little cheaper than intermountain but they have plastic axles. I wanted metal axles so I could make track pickups for my passenger cars lighting. Needless to say, I had to buy Intermountain anyway. Even if you don't need wheels for...

A new super rare addition to our layout

I remember as a kid in the early 70's there was a McD's in Hackettstown NJ that looked like that. I remember the sign that had to be changed after another billion burgers were sold. Now they just say "billions and billions" served. Haha showing my age. -Art

    Need advise on DCC

I second what Anton said. I got my powercab from model train stuff about $149 new. I searched all over the internet and without buying used that was the best price I found. I have had mine for several months and really like the hand held cab. It serves my purposes very well (enough power for...

Ok, sorry I said "switching". What I meant was slow speed=diesel sounds high speed=turbine sounds Jeesh When I typed my response I called it "switching" because it clearly runs on a slower speed table when in Diesel mode like a switcher. -Art

I stand corrected, I thought it had all wheel drive. Was cleaning it's wheels this weekend and noticed my error. It does however have dual motors and the QSI sound controller can play either diesel (switching/low speed) or Turbine (mainline speed) modes. -Art

Need closeup pix of Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-2 Pacific to put back together

After many hours of frustration I got it figured out. Someone on another forum sent me a closeup pic. Here is the final result: I think it came out pretty good. Not a big fan of blue but this color scheme really looks nice to me. Next week gotta add a sound controller. There is a speaker...
