    What below-table machine are you using? Some machines are momentary and others are constant voltage. A DCC buss and a 12VDC buss are a good idea. All of my Tortoise switch machines are powered off the 12vdc buss through DPDT switches on the control panels. I prefer Control Panels rather than...

    Its looking good. Thats a good sized yard. I've found that trying to work ballast or "dirt" when wet is very difficult. Usually, I lay it and brush to contour, then apply wet-water and glue.     Track on wood expanding/contracting question

    The track plan and type of rail joints can play a part in track expansion. If the layout is in a climate controlled room, then the problem will probably be minimal. An oval or dogbone plan will more likely experience expand/contract problems than a switching only operation. I have a dogbone...

    Determining the era of your layout

    And, perhaps, another consideration. How much space is available for curves/dogbones. Modern cars/loco are considerably longer. I don't have long radii for newer cars or locomotives: can't run the late steams either.

    Easy, Cheap Coal Loads

    Next time you change your undersink water filter cartridge, cut it open and save the charcoal. I glued this load in place with carpenters glue and wetwater. The bumper at the end of track is one of the new styles :D

    I've toyed with starting the MMR journey and just sent an email to the AP director seeking guidance. Haven't heard anything back. What has your experience been - any suggestions?
