    How steep is too steep?

On my road the ruling grade up Pi Hill is 3.14%, with 22" radius curves at each end! My Denver Zephyr has six passenger cars of various weights. Motive power is a E5A and E7B, both Proto2000, and they make it quite easily. My Mantua-based 2-10-4's have only the end drivers flanged, and can pull...

    City Street Chaos

When I was a kid and we used to visit my Mom's folks in Quincy, Illinois, they lived in a residence hotel, and would have us stay in a room across the hall. The windows in the room overlooked an alley where a saloon backed to it. Every once in a while, there would be fights in the alley. I don't...

    Complete newcomer impulse buy

Check ebay for a LifeLike F7 diesel locomotive, or an Athearn F7. The shell should fit one of those.

    History of All Kinds

I was 12 years old, and I watched them bring the U-505 across South Shore Drive from Lake Michigan. Once in place, there were speeches by RAdm Dan Gallery, who had led the Navy task force that captured the boat, and Adm. William "Bull" Halsey! I was on the North side of the audience. so I...

Running Bear's August 2026 Coffee Shop

T Troy, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV or otherwise, but I have had flareups with back and leg pain for a few years. The last go around, after my original spine MD tried me with that 7, 6, 5 prednisone regimen, which did nothing, I went to another specialist who referred me to a pain...

"Beside a Western water tank, On a cold November morn..." They might know the 'bo's on my layout. (No picture for now.)

    Decal source

With the decals on the way, I need to figure out how to come up with "aluminum" color and a brand of paint that will work on the plastic of the old Athearn Blue Box. I won't be airbrushing them, so it will have to be something I can brush on. Any help will be appreciated.

    Decal source

Thanks! I am going to try to redecorate some heavyweight passenger cars from Pulman green to either aluminum or gray, the way the Q did in the '50's, when they replaced the shadowline striping with plain colors. I need the black BURLINGTON names to apply after I paint the cars. These cars were...

    Decal source

I am looking for HO scale decals for Burlington Route (C.B.&Q.) passenger cars, black letters. All the places I've looked show Microscale decals out of stock! Any suggestions?

    Bonding with Grandson

One nit-picky question: How many stars on the flag at the P.O.? What is your era? Mine is in the early '50's, so I had to find a 48-star flag. Great work on the town square!

    History of All Kinds

Yup! The Boeing 747 was about 100 years in the future. Now, who was the first military aviation recon officer, and what kind of craft was he using and when?

    History of All Kinds

Anyone know if the press made a big thing, or even found out about the president having to sneak into Washington, DC, using multiple means of transportation and even wearing a disguise? Note: Neither Air Force One nor any decoy aircraft were involved.) Can anyone come up with the date and the...
